Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Yesterday was busy at work, which is a good thing but kept me from postin’ again. Today is half price candy day. YAY!!!
{{{MBG and BusKid}}} {{{Taters}}}
Yays, boos, hugs, congrats, icks as needed. I’ve read what I missed but as of yet I do not have sufficient caffiene ingested so as to comprehend everything.
Happy belated birthday to Mr. Lissar and a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY - again, belatedly.
I actually got a romantic card and a box of candy yesterday!!! Woo and hoo! And I got a couple of valentine’s at work too. And it’s a holiday weekend, no work on Monday. I only have plans for a trip to Target this weekend and -maybe- a meet-up with a friend I haven’t seen in over 30 years. Yeah, you read that right. Long story, but not that interesting. She’s in No. Va., though, and I’m in MD–we’ll have to see how the weather is (she’s had bronchitis) and where we’ll be able to meet. I suspect she’s not familiar with where I live, and I’m not familiar with where she’s at. LOL Things will work out, though.
Yay for autoclave-able pipet tips!!! (See, beebs, you’re not the only one who cares. Also, I’d never seen that spelling, but just learned from Wikipedia via Google that: “A pipette (also called a pipet, pipettor or chemical dropper)…”(italics mine). I was familiar with pipettes…at least in principle.
I’m sipping Irish Breakfast Tea (hi tarra) and considering breakfast.
Hang in there, Taters! And stop by often anyway.
Continued hugs for BusKid and entire BusFamily.
Gotta get ready for work…
Hope things are looking less bleak today for everyone who’s having a bumpy week! Hugs.
Good morning, all - it’s poke-n-prod day. But I got to sleep in a bit, so there’s that. And the 2 smaller critters (not Bernie, she’s a good doggie) have been terrorizing each other all morning. They’re finally calming down. I’ll be leaving in about an hour, but I’ve still got to shower and dress, so you won’t get the full 60 minutes. Sorry, guys…
Weird dream last night - something about my daughter house sitting in a mansion and some of her friends and I were there to spend the night. There’s was a cat, and a repairman who had to be called in the middle of the night, and one of her friends was sick and needed EVERY SINGLE PILLOW in the house. Yeah, weird.
After my adventures in medicine, we’re going to drive to Solomon’s Yacht Center - **FCD ** really wants to move to another marina, but the one he likes costs almost twice what the current one does, plus they want half a year’s rent up front. I’m none too keen on raiding savings for that right now. But we’re going to go talk to them and check it out anyway. The main reason we want to leave our marina is their bathroom facilities SUCK!! They’ve got 2 full baths, but they share them with a restaurant and bar, so they always reek and they’re in terrible condition anyway. Plus they’re on the second floor behind a cypher lock, so if you gotta go in a hurry, well, too bad. Besides that, the other marina has floating docks. If you’ve never checked out marinas, trust me, floating docks are TEH BEST!!! I’m just not sure they’re worth an extra $140 a month right now.
Um, in other news, ummmmm, nothing really. I’m about to shower and dress (more or less) like an adult. I’m hongry and starting to get my hunger headache. Stoopit fasting blood test.
I’m kinda miffed that my WHOLE post was deleted, but on second thought, I really don’t care all that much.
Grumpy and pissy this morning. So there. Have you ever wanted to just extend a HUGE middle finger to the world? That’s me this morning. Not a solid basis for doing so, either (aka I have no good excuse–I just feel pissy).
I’ll take my pissiness elsewhere.
Oh God Taters, I was sick all Valentines Day, so I missed bunch of stuff. I must offer up buckets and buckets of hugs to you too.
Here’s what I’ll do. I don’t want to dismiss all the bad stuff in this thread this week, but I would like to try to cheer some of you guys up a bit in my own bbs2k-like way.
Here’s the challenge. I want you folks to suggest a subject – any subject – and I will write a haiku about it. Do your best to stump me, I take on all challengers!
Jesus H. Smith. A valentine’s day school shooting and one of our own’s daughter in disturbingly close proximity – BusDude, I’m glad your daughter wasn’t directly involved and managed to get out of there okay. I’d be pretty damn freaked out if that were me, too. I’m reading that 7 are dead now as a result of that one.
Man, that makes two people here who had close brushes with school shootings. (Who was the other that attended VTech during those shootings?) This world is going to hell, I tell you. I just did a little armchair research because I was curious if school shootings were really on the rise or if it was just confirmation bias. Not to turn this into a morbid or FUD post, but for all levels of school around the world that involved death or serious injury, but excluding failed attempts and suicides where no one else was hurt, I found:
1891-1970: 13 incidents in 79 years (11 in USA)
1971-1990: 17 incidents in 20 years (12 in USA, 3 in Canada)
1991-2000: 46 incidents in 10 years (34 in USA, 2 in Canada)
2001-2003: 18 incidents in 3 years (15 in USA)
2004-2005: 12 incidents in 2 years (5 in USA)
2006: 16 incidents (14 in USA, 1 in Canada)
2007: 26 incidents (17 in USA, 1 in Canada)
2008: 4 so far (including NIU)
What the hell is wrong with kids these days? And I don’t mean that in a “get off my lawn!” way – is there some bad shit in the water or something that’s effecting the still-forming brains of our youth or what?
sigh
Well, anyway, today’s my last day of work and then I’m on vacation for the next week plus a day (thanks to Family Day being this Monday, so I get two long weekends. :D) Wee!
Good morning, everybody. Continued hugs to those who need them, especially {{Taters}} and {{MBG and BusKid}}. This morning they’re saying a seventh student has died. Man, it’s scary to be a parent these days. I hope, for BusKid’s sake, she didn’t know any of the kids who didn’t make it. It’s hard enough just being near such an event.
I finished up yesterday’s congressdrivel at my normal bedtime hour, which was just lovely, and crawled in and snuggled with the cat all night. I awoke to find myself lying flat on my back and the cat lying cross my throat, purring loudly, thereby creating a multiplicity of events: not only a face full of fur, but I had apparently been inhaling fur for some time because I’m still coughing it up out of the back of my throat. Cats! Can’t kill 'em, not enough for a rug!
So beebs is issuing a haiku challenge, eh? How about gumbo? A good haiku about gumbo is always important.
I’m off to veg this morning. I have last night’s Lost to watch, and I’m not quite sure what else I’m going to do today besides take a nap. Okay, okay, I’ll go to the gym, if you insist! But it’s definitely going to be a no-work day, for some strange reason. Like the fact that I’ve done a complete week’s worth of work in the last three days.
