Free association vis a vis the OP:
Kirk: Take us out of here, Scotty. Warp factor eleven.
Spock: Warp eleven, Captain?
Scotty: Well, it’s faster than ten, isn’t it?
Was Nigel Tufnel’s girlfriend “a perfect 11?”
Since I’ve never posted this, I will. No, I’m NOT going to search every license plate thread to see if it has been posted before:
There was once a large, prosperous car manufacturer call Chrysler. Really!
They once sold a line of cars call the Plymouth
One model of Plymouth was called the Horizon
In California, a blue Horizon was plated “Beyond”
That is all - thank you and have a lovely evening
In California the standard format for non-personalized liscence plates is:
Number, Letter, Letter, Letter, Number, Number, Number
I once saw a plate that read:
1YOU694
Now this is the standard format, so it is possible that this was randomly assigned- which is what I find so fascinating: Hilarious if someone got it by accident while brillaint if it was chosen as a personalized plate (as being in standard format allows plausible deniability).
So either a random “one wy oh yu six nine four” or a calculated “One for whom you sixty-nine”.
Since we - well some of us - are talking about Spinal tap, you should go to the bbc site and start up any of the videos (maximize volume). For instance http://news.bbc.co.uk/
One of the cars in my neighbourhood has this plate:
IFXDX
I’m guessing he’s either a Viagra salesman or a urologist.
For the love of God, why?
Why wouldn’t they allow 2GRL 1CP on a license plate? I know what the video is - it’s horrible. But it’s just a title. The words aren’t offensive - they don’t even sound offensive. If they were to start disallowing anything that even sounds like it might be offensive, what would be the point?
YES! It was a Christmas episode, the one with the haunted house where the murder-suicide ghosts possess Scully and Mulder. Scully says it at the start of the episode, while sitting outside of the house in her car (or someone’s car, anyway). As you can tell I’ve seen that episode more than once, and it always drives me nuts: I always think, “What, there wasn’t a single person from the East Coast on that set??”
I completely agree with this. Anyone who “gets it” will just laugh or roll their eyes (or wish they’d thought of it), but anyone who doesn’t get it can’t possibly be offended. What’s the big deal?
Yeah, I guess you have a point there. I’ve just heard too many stories about things that even have a whiff of something offensive getting turned down, that it surprised me that one got through. Frankly, I don’t care what people put on their license plates. They’re just words, really. Even the four-letter ones. And there’s no law saying that people can’t put those same four-letter words on bumper stickers. Though I can certainly see the rationale behind it (especially with regard to racial slurs and such. I wouldn’t want to see somebody with the N word on their license plate, for example, but the F word wouldn’t particularly bother me. Everybody’s mileage is different, though.)
Now I want a bumper sticker that says, “My other frakkin’ car is a Viper.”
Having not heard of the video before, my first impression from 2GRL 1CP was “2 Girls 1 Cop” as in a way to get out of a ticket. OTOH, it might improve their chances of getting pulled over. Especially at night. On less populous roads. And if the car was full of babes then of course he’d have to call for backup.
This is always fun
A55 RGY Only funny when seen, in Florida.
We had something like that at work. One of our employees had a picture of Towely on her shirt. I was going to ask her not to wear it again, but I figured anyone who caught the reference wouldn’t be (as) offended. I guess I should have made sure she wasn’t explaining it to people that didn’t get it. (BTW if, you don’t know what Towely is, it’s the worst character ever on South Park, a bath towel that smokes a lot of pot).
A few months ago, I saw a brand new black Dodge Viper (I’ve NEVER seen one on the road). The plate said SLYTHRN.
I once saw a plate that read HWY2HEL, which surprised me. I know most people don’t have a problem with the word “hell”, but as I am in Idaho people here do tend to be rather conservative and might get uptight about such expressions.
Oh, the BSG geek in me likes that.
Different show, but the other day I saw a license plate frame that said “The gorram reavers ate my gorram ship.”

Brilliant!
Shiny!

You also don’t see many Shelby Cobras in traffic, but I spotted one on the New Jersey Turnpike a few years ago. The license plate read POISNUS.
I know I’ve mentioned this one before, but there is a Ninja-type motorcycle around here with “NAZGUL” as it’s plate.
And I have a pic in my phone right now of a car my son and I saw yesterday at the coffee place. It was a nice BMW being driven by an older lady (maybe 70)- the plate said “APOLOGY.”
So the OP was February 19. I was just at a red light behind the same car again today.
I saw a “WTF” plate in New Hampshire in about 2005. That’s another surprising one to get past the DMV, even in NH.
