I’m working up the song Indecision by James King, to play with my group, and I’m having a heck of a time figuring out the lyrics for one line.
The line in question starts at 2:06 on the linked recording. It starts “Reaching for both”
Including the line before and after, I’ve got:
But I’m travelling, down a road that has no end
Reaching for both (? ? ?- 3 syllables) It’s useless to pretend.
I need you even though I know I’m losing
I can’t figure out the three syllables in the parens, either by sound or from context. And I couldn’t find any other recorded versions online or any lyrics (I have this on a compilation disc, with no lyrics.) To my ear, the mystery 3 syllables sound something like “and yer foon”
Maybe he was just being indecisive in that line…
In case it helps you put it in context, the entire lyrics I have are:
*I’m sailing on a sea of indecision
Deep dark waters on both sides
I can’t make up my mind which way I’m going
To ease away this hurt so deep inside
If I lose you, that old sun will cease to shine
If by laws of God and men, you cannot be mine
I really do not know which way I’m going
My soul is dying every day
I really wish I had a way of knowing
Either way my heart will have to pay
BREAK
You cannot live with one and love another
When - I lose I just can’t stay
Drifting on a sea of indecision
Either way my heart will have to pay
But I’m traveling, down a road that has no end
Reaching for both (? ? ?- 3 syllables) It’s useless to pretend.
I need you even though I know I’m losing
I really wish that I could find a way
I know that I will soon have to be choosing
Either way my heart will have to pay.*
Cheery tune, huh? Appreciate any help you might be able to give.
(Reminds me of when I was in a band back in the 80s - thought we were going to go mad trying to figure out the lyrics to Peter Gabriel’s Modern Love off vinyl LP. WTF - The driver had stolen Lady Godiva’s WHAT???)
