From your OP you seem to think that the SDMB membership consists of arrogant, snooty pseudo-intellectuals who are hopelessly inebriated on their imagined self-importance … and you are right. We once had an unpretentious, good-natured, helpful SDMB member … but he got married and moved away. Our membership now consists entirely of stuck-up, supercillious snobs. (And the SDMB is a much better place for it). So, by all means, if you feel this isn’t the place for you, then don’t join. You’ve learned your lesson without having to part with a single coin of the realm. There are other boards that would probably be more to your liking where you can discuss your interests (Wrestle Mania 4, Monster Truck Rallies, Coors Beer, etc). So, don’t spend the money to join this ego-fest. Save that money for a new set of tires for your “house”.
