Don’t worry none of the errors involve patient care.
Yesterday we had a concurrent exam, which consists of a quiz in each of this term’s testable subjects. Nice of them to ruin the 3 day weekend for us, but that’s a separate rant. The problem was that the server with the class websites on it was down all weekend rendering lecture slides, old quizzes, sample problems, etc inaccessible. So there was much frantic emailing on the class mailing list trying to find people who had copies of these various items that they could send out to the class.
We get in to the exam and someone from the curriculum office gets up to say that they didn’t know about the problem with the server until this morning, they suspect it was hacked, they may try and do some kind of adjustment of scores but we’re going to take the test anyway. Fine. We get started and about 2 minutes in someone goes up to talk with the proctor.
“I’ve just been told that the cell physiology portion of the exam is the one from last time. Just set it aside and I’ll go find the new one.”
Fine. We have 3 other subjects to do while various people go rushing about trying to find and copy the new questions while making sure there’s a proctor in the room at all times. After about 20 minutes they come back with a stack of photocopies which they proceed to hand out. After they’re almost all distributed someone points something out the woman.
“I give up! Apparently the sheet I just handed out has some of the answers marked. Well, I guess you get a freebie. Enjoy.”
All but one of phys questions had the correct answer marked. I don’t know whether they’ll give us the free points or just throw it out. I’m hoping for the free points. After the laughter subsides we continue with the test. Until another person comes up to point something out.
“I’ve just been told that there is a duplicate question on the pathology portion of the test. Just go ahead and put an answer on the sheet like you normally would.”
After the test everyone drifts off to do their own thing for a while since we don’t have class for another couple of hours. Despite the beautiful sunny weather almost everyone shows up for immunology at 1:30. Except for the professor. So we sit and wait for a while, and somebody manages to find his phone number. The prof hurries in 15 minutes late apologizing because he thought the lecture was at 2:30.
The only thing that went right yesterday was that my patient interview this morning was cancelled. (I really didn’t want to get up this morning) And it’s cancelled because the interview coordinator is sick.
What kind of idiot hacks a server that contains nothing but curriculum info for a medical school anyway? No grades. No patient information. Nothing of any interest to someone not taking the class. There have got to be more interesting things out there to hack.
