I’ve just seen on the news that Hurricane Gordon is on its way to you . Keep you head down and I hope you and yours and your property all remain safe and untouched .
And, when he’s gone, I hope Gordon leaves the “d” that you took out of the subject, yojimbo.
Seriously, I was in SoFla when Andrew hit in 1992, and it’s big business. Keep safe, FlaDopers, and make sure my mom and dad are okay, too.
Crap . Sorry about that .
We thank you for your kind thoughts. We are in the middle of hurricane preparedness here at work right now, which means getting vital backup tapes, etc. off-site to a more secure location than our converted-warehouse complex that we work in. Then the good part is, when it’s over, we get to put everything back where it would normally be.
So far everything is fine in Tampa. Raining a little, that’s about it.
Inland Central FL cheking in - a wee bit rainy -n- breezy, but tornado watches.
Thanks for your concern.
Another central Floridian checking in. The rain has picked up and it is a bit breezy (there are a few limbs down in the backyard and one big one in the street in front of my house) but I think the tornado watch is over now.
Thanks for thinking of us.
Snort ‘n’ hahahaha. Yes, please leave the “d” as you leave.
It’ll be a wet Jaguars football game this afternoon in Jacksonville. thanks for thinking about us.
Thanks for the concern. The weather is actually rather calm, with a light drizzle. As the 'cane approaches, I’m hoping for a day off school. A boy can dream, can’t he?
Update: Our tornado watches have been extended through 8:00 p.m. When I was on-line earlier, my french doors in my den blew open. Oops, guess I need to keep them locked for now. Any dopers in the Cedar Key area?
BTW, Kiffa, are you going to the Jaguars game? I was invited up and I’m sure glad I didn’t drive up there Friday night. That would have been a crappy drive home.
Any SoFla dopers mind checking in with an update?
(yawn) Hurricane Gordon - oh you mean this windy-rainy thing? No problemo, I haven’t even taken the plants off the balcony.
Georges was scarier, Opal floodier, TS Erin much windier (and rainier). If this is the worst storm Tampa Bay sees this season, we’re set …
um, I mean, it’s a living nightmare down here - no doubt the storms will start rolling in like boxcars on a freight train - my advice to all tourists and snowbirds is STAY AWAY if you value your lives.
Just checking in from the KSC/ Cocoa Beach area. lots of rain, good thing, we still needed a bit. Hey, when are we gonna have a dopefest for us Florida dopers? Let’s do it before tourist season gets bad.
later, Tom
Checking in from Orange Park - just south of Jax - we went downtown early today to double up the lines on our boar, there by ensuring that Jacksonville would be spared all ill effects of the storm. It’s 2:40 in the afternoon and for the last 3 hours or so, we’ve been having a lovely gentle rain and barely any breeze… My only worry is the big dead tree beside the house - it’s to be removed by the end of this week. Here’s hoping Mother Nature doesn’t decide to drop it on the roof.
I’m supposed to fly out at 10:30 tomorrow morning - dunno if the storm will have passed by then. Local prognisticators are saying the worst will come thru tonight - we shall see…
ummm - that is, we doubled up the lines on our BOAT… we pretty much let our boar run free…
Sheesh…
Checking in from near Ft. Lauderdale [southeast] and it’s just a little drizzle around here. By the time it hits this part of Fla, it’ll have died down a bit. I’m really not worried by it at all.
Jacksonville checking in. Between Gordon and that damned Nor’Easter, I think we’re going to float away. They say the heaviest rain will come between 8pm and 4 am. Good thing is that by the time the eye gets to us it’ll be a TS again. Be glad y’all stayed away… all Jax people will be safely home by the time it gets to us, but if you had to drive any real distance, you’d be smack in the middle of it.
Just got back. Just after my previous post, a blue jay got caught in a strong breeze and slammed into our patio window - broken wing. I drove to the the rehabber’s place and helped her set it; the bird should be okay. Fine and quiet here for now, except for idiots who don’t know how to drive when the wind and rain is coming in sideways (hell, they don’t know how to drive in the rain at all, but that’s another thread). It seems to have quieted down now. Thanks.
hflathead - FL dopefest sounds great!
RTA - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Eh, it’s no big deal. I was hear when Andrew hit and I have seen bigger stuff than this. It’s supposed to hit near Tampa anyway. That’s far away frm me. But I have genius friends who went to Busch Gardens today. Idiot.
