As some (or all) of you know, I was in the process of moving to the area.
Well, I made it!
I would love to meet some of the local dopers. Anyone who’s interested, let me know, I can e-mail you with my phone #, and we can perhaps set up a small dopefest!
Glad you made it!
I’d love to get another mini-dopefest together but this is the month from hell. I’ve been driving myself to exhaustion between work and school all October and November doesn’t look like it will be any better. I’ve even been neglecting poor Crunchy Frog lately.
Hopefully the other Tallahassee Dopers will be able to be your official welcome wagon to Tally town. (hint, hint, guys)
Welcome to the real Funkytown, BlessedWolf! Sure hope you’ll enjoy your stay here. I personally guarantee that you may find this to be one of the more funky places you’ve ever lived!
Unfortunately, I’m in Tally-Ho’s boat: extremely swamped until what looks like December… and you know what that’s going to be about. The Holiday thing. Egad. (And how, pray tell, did that sneak up on us so fast?)
I could probably squeeze in a luncheon, but it has to be after the 20th. I’m working on a bid for Tally-Ho’s employer, so I can’t talk to her… (kidding) I just can’t leave my office until it’s turned in on the 20th.
Whaddya think Tal-Dopers? Anybody up for lunch the week of the 27th? We should welcome this fella appropriately. (Although I think I flamed you in the Pit once… something about kicking barking dogs or something… Maybe we can just forget all about that…)
If nobody else responds, just e-mail me and I’ll meet you out for lunch somewhere, after you provide documenatation showing me that you are NOT a whacko or serial killer or anything…
Tallahassee Doper checkin in here. I’m pretty swamped all the time, but if you come to the Publix Deli on Centerville Road, I’d be happy to make you a nice sub. Just look for Steven.
I must’ve missed that! Don’t worry, I won’t kick barking dogs…unless they’re the little yappy kind
Great place! That’s one of the few restaurants I’ve been to. And, as a matter of fact, it’s a mile from my apartment.
I’m ready at any time to get together either en masse or one- or two- on one. Let me know! Remember, I came from a town with only one other doper in the vicinity–about an hour away! So it’s nice to know that there are some of the TM around.
Had to check the calendar to make sure that Nov 27 wasn’t Thanksgiving week.
I can usually make myself available just about anytime. Monday’s in the fall are reserved for the Seminole Booster luncheons, but there are only two of them left.
Greetings to the new Tallahassee dopers. (Well, I haven’t “talked” with Tally-Ho or Dogzilla in a while so I offer you greetings as well. And Grem. Has anyone seen him lately?) Paraphrasing Les Nessman, “we’re a small, but well behaved group”.
BlessedWolf: My dog is exactly the small yappy kind… a Boston Terror, aka Dogzilla (IRL). At least she’s ugly and not the CUTE yappy kind… I’ll keep her out of your way!
SouthernStyle: Thanks for the sig! I’m guessing this is the first you’ve seen it! And no… I haven’t heard from or seen Grem. He must be busy or traveling or something… Who knows?
I’m looking forward to meeting more Tally Dopers… Anybody wanna pick a date for the luncheon?
Well, TBH, the little yappy ones are annoying if they belong to say, a neighbour behind closed doors (my last 3 neighbours had them), but IRL, I seem to get along fairly well with them.
Anyone up for lunch on Saturday?
(Belle: Don’t worry about being kind of shy…when my fingers aren’t on a keyboard, I’m pretty much the same way. Are you new to Tally or new to the SDMB or both? If you’re new to the boards, may I offer you a hearty welcome! If to Tallahassee, I’m in no position to welcome you yet. :D)
Coffee sounds good–have fun out-of-town (assuming that it’s a pleasure, or at least pleasurable trip). I’m available anytime. I have no life so far.
I work at the infamous Democrat. So far, all the people are really great (for media folk). But then, I work in advertising, where being pleasant is part of the job description. Hmm…maybe I’ll shake them up a bit once I’m no longer the “new guy.”
I will be painting all weekend, otherwise I’d volunteer to show you around or something. Here’s my deal: I am working on a huge bid for the State, which is due next Friday. Please post here when and where you will meet for coffee … I’ll make every effort to join you, but I just can’t guarantee I can get out of the office at a decent hour next week. I’m also interviewing copywriters, which is taking up huge amounts of my time.
The week of Thanksgiving, however, I am wide open and taking off and can be available as a tour/newcomers’ guide or just for hanging out slurping coffee… So bear with me and I’ll actually pay attention to you soon. I mean it, I swear! We work in the same business and I know one of the sports writers over there, so there’s some common ground. Except for the yappy dogs part.
Incidentally, since I am now only the second-newest Tally Doper (Whew, thanks for taking that one off me!) here’s some advice: When people give you directions to places, they will cite landmarks which no longer exist. Ignore this and ask for specific street names. Chances are, natives won’t know the name of the streets. Then e-mail me and I’ll tell you how to get there… When someone sez, “You know where the old K-Mart used to be?” you’ll see what I mean… I still get this sometimes and I’ve been here three years already.
Damn, 'zilla, sounds like a week from hell! Good luck getting that State contract…that’s always big $$.
The week of Thanksgiving sounds good to me. The 'rents live 12 hours away, and my car overheats driving around the block, so I’m staying here. No family! There’s something to give thanks for!
So what’s the standard protocol? I’m naturally reluctant to post my phone #, but anyone who calls the Democrat and asks for Brian in Advertising oughtta be able to reach me (there. that’s oblique enough, right?)
Or e-mail me at blessedwolf@hotmail.com for things like phone # and neighbourhood. I gotta say, I’m really looking forward to meeting intelligent people. There were only four where I used to live.
Maybe we could meet at San Miguel’s for margaritas? It’s a small mexican restaurant that used to be called the “White Swan”. And it’s right across from the old K-Mart. (Sorry Dogzilla – had to be offerred.)
Oh, Dogzilla. I believe that both Belle and Blessedwolf are “younger” than you. (Careful now, your age is starting to show.)
I did nothing wrong, Your Honor. When she
asked me if the dress made her look fat I
simply hesitated long enough to decide which
answer would be the least painful.
Make that 6 and 1/2…
I lived in Tally for the vast portion of my life, and I still visit every now and then. (Not often enough, huh muffinman?) While Massachusetts may be my mailing address, I still consider Tallahassee home
Standard Protocol: generally at this point, we go to e-mails for specifics. Somewhere around here I have everybody’s e-mail address – and now blessedwolf’s too – so I will send one out today and we’ll try to pick a date.
Reprieve! Good news for Dogzilla: the State suspended their bid “contest” because someone filed a protest. I still have to work on this, but now I’ll have like two months instead of this week to finish. Now I can play with my Doper friends next week! Whoo-hoo!
Blessed: I used to live in South Carolina too, so I can relate to your comments about only being 4 intelligent people where you lived. I was in Greenville and knew exactly one intelligent person. She was not from South Carolina. (I spent two years there. Now I know why that woman drove her babies into that lake!)
San Miguel’s is technically on Tharpe St., but Southern sez it’s across the street from the old K-Mart (smartass!). He is right. Take Monroe Street north (away from the Capitol) and you will see it somewhere around Lake Ella. Mmmmmm… Margaritas… (Although LaFiesta makes GREAT margaritas!)
Southern: I said “newer” I didn’t say anything about younger! Actually, Blessedwolf and I are the exact same age. Startin’ to get spooky how much I have in common with someone I’ve not met yet.
Belle, are you in? Shall I send you the e-mail too? Tally Ho? Are you with us? Anybody heard from Grem? (If he doesn’t show, who’s buying? ;))
