I am in Tampa, which isn’t exactly south If we ever do a big gathering, it should be in an area that is easy for all of us to get to.

Yes, GolfWidow, I think Orlando would be a great place to meet. I am off the Florida Doper Gathering circuit for a while though. I am using up my vacation time to go to the Rochester gathering next month, and then in November I am scrambling to switch shifts with all my coworkers so I can take the weekend off to go to a friend’s wedding. I may not be able to get time off again in quite a while. But, if everyone else wants to plan something, go ahead!

a dopefest in Orlando sounds within driving distance for a number of us. Probably should do a weekend daytime thing. Churchstreet Station isn’t too bad as far as easy location, numerous bars/restaraunts, and not too touristy. No offense, but I don’t think we could lure a number of people with the promise of hurricane left-overs! Let’s keep up the topic and shoot for sometime before Thanksgiving. More suggestions??? Maybe a picnic party at Blue Springs State Park in Deland/Orange City? Come on Florida dopers, let’s do it!

I can probably make it as far as Orlando for a meeting. Keep me up to date, OK? And the only times I could make it would be a Friday or Saturday night or Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. F.'s folks live in Plant City, and we’ll be down over Christmas (she was there this past weekend for Gordon, btw). I don’t know the dates yet, but we usually come down for aobut a week, and if any of you folks in the I-4 corridor want to get together then, I’ll let you know when our plans firm up.
I cannot speak for everyone, but I must say: to yojimbo, Montfort, TVeblen and vanilla, my thanks for your concern; we were lucky this time - the potential for catastrophe is always present. It is refreshing to see how much most people on the SDMB care for each other, even half a world away. I am touched. Thank you.

I’m a big fan of nature, and hurricanes blow my mind. Having witnessed a few of them in my day, I always prefer to see them on the news, rather than in person.
