Do mods wait for us to call attention to threads deserving relocation? I am seeing this more & more lately. In a thread I just started we have this:
Of course by the time a mod sees that, s/he has already read the OP and probably knows where the thread should be. Mods: does seeing a comment like that ever cause you to rethink and move a thread because another poster thinks it should be better off in another forum?
Do mods find it helpful when posters start playing ‘Junion Moderator Patrol’ or is it just a waste (albiet a small one) of disc space? Should we post disclaimers at the bottom of all our threads stating why we feel it needs to be in the forum we posted it in? Example:
Disclaimer: I posted this in ATMB and not the BBQ Pit because I am asking for mod’s input on how they moderate & if unsolicited input from posters helps any. No flames are implied or intended. Void where prohibited by law. Cash value 1/20¢. Some restrictions apply.
Follow-up question: Would mods mind being notified via e-mail when some mod-type action needs to be taken?
I stopped myself yesterday from e-mailing the GQ mods that there was a one-person post party going on over there. My rationale for e-mailing them was that they should hear about it as soon as possible. My rationales for deciding not to hit “Send” were: I’m not a mod, nobody ever asked me to be a hall monitor, it’s not my place to tell the mods how to and when to do their jobs, and I was in a crappy mood and it was probably affecting my judgment.
So I backed off. But I would like to know. For future reference.
Speaking for myself, I actually prefer when people do this. We’re not perfect; there are things that we’re going to miss. And having someone drop me an e-mail notifying me of something that I might not be aware of, or of something that might need immediate attentions rather than waiting until I come across it on the board helps out an awful lot. If it’s a message somewhere in the thread itself, it might well get passed by.
Ditto on what Euty said.
If it’s something that just needs moving or maybe a minor correction, email the moderators of the affected forum; they’ll take care of it soonest.
However, if it’s something bigger or uglier, mail not only the moderators but also add in your administrators.
Between all of us, we’ll get it done. We’re not all here 24/7, we’re not perfect, and sometimes stuff just plain gets by us. We appreciate all the help our Teeming Millions give us, couldn’t do it without you in so many ways!
