Godzilla is on the move…
There are lots of reports of luminescence at sea. William Corliss’ books and sites give examples. But you always have to take Corliss with a grain of salt. Exactly what causes suh events isn’t clear, and probably different events have different causes.
Many years ago mysterious lights closer to Japan turned out to be Japanese shrimping fleets. They used high-intensity lights to lure the shrimp to the surface at night so they could be netted.
I don’t quite understand the problem in determining the cause. Can’t they just send a ship out to scoop up a sample and see what’s in the water?
Oooh! It’s just like those things in Surface! Next the government will cover it up and tell us it was just swamp gas.

Hmmmm. But if we can somehow convince Godzilla that the ship was from somewhere more expendable than Tokyo … say, Los Angeles …
As per the article. They got an old report of such a glow and then went to the sat pic archives and found a picture of it from 1995. Kind of hard to take a sample now.
Given the rare and transient nature of the events, don’t expect a thorough on-site investigation of one soon.

Maybe it’s R’lyeh, rising from the watery depths as Great Cthulhu wakes?
Or it could be Cerenkov radiation from…uh…radioactive waste? Perhaps if it washes ashore we’ll get giant ants a la Them.

I just watched “The Fog” a couple days ago on TV. Turned out (Not really a spoiler) that the (glowing) fog contained seafaring zombies that came ashore with the fog and killed a bunch of people. They wanted their gold or somesuch. It was a mediocre movie except for Adrian Barbow. (SP?) In tight fittin’ jeans.
