A new Alien Film in the Works Ridley Speaks!

Ridley Scott gives some details on the new Alien prequel film.

I think if we all pull together, we can think of a way to get Ripley into this new film. It just wouldn’t be the same without her.

Eh, Ripley would keep it a franchise which is a mistake at this point. The theme is great, theres no reason to tie in previous movies, and if you do the writer/director will have to deal with all kinds of plot discrepancies weakening the movie.

Make if fresh, please.

It’s kind of depressing that the film is about a guy that dies at the end of the movie. It’s like doing Lincoln’s story the day before he goes to the theater.

I wonder if this is on youtube? I haven’t seen Alien in years.

He won’t necessarily be the main character. Take for instance the Star Wars prequels. Ostensibly they’re about Darth Vader, but really the main character is Obi Wan.

I suspect that they’ll want to keep the main character female given how much the success of the franchise rests on its having one of (if not the) first female action heroes in a movie.

No.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered about the Space Jockey guys too…

Who and what the heck were they???

The movie could work well if they focus on the space jockeys.Who they were and their interest in space exploration.

My concern was making the dead guy the central character. Since we already know he’s a dead guy walking. But, if he’s just one guy in a crew of space jockeys that finds the Alien. Then that will work.

I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

Yes. Anakin is the story. But the person who is out discovering Anakin, Amidala, Palpatine, Boba Fett, the Clone Army, etc. is Obi-Wan. He’s the mover. Anakin simply experiences life. Obi-Wan makes choices and moves towards them, pushing the story long in a way that lets us observe what is happening in the universe and to Anakin.

Can’t wait to miss this one.

Agreed. Alien was a stand-alone masterpiece. None of the sequels were worth watching.

And for me, the mystery, wonder, and creepiness of the Space Jockey are part of the greatness of Alien. Whatever “answers” they conjure up will be vastly inferior to the question, even with Ridley Scott directing.

Another musn’t-see movie for me.

.

Agreed. But Ridley Scott had nothing to do with any of the sequels, so I’m keeping an open mind about this project.

What? Aliens is a VERY good movie - worth it just for the quotes.

Brian

Agreed. While I like Alien (#1), I think *Aliens * (#2) was the best of the bunch so far…TRM (Nuke it from orbit; it’s the only way to be sure)

You could make an argument either way. That’s one of the problems with the prequels - they’re (ostensibly) a series of action-adventure movies with no protagonist.

I’m sorry, but insanity of this magnitude forces me to revoke your second grade citizenship award.

I thought the main character was Lucas’ ego :confused:

Oh come now. The follow-ups except No.4 which was incoherent tripe (mixed Alien-Human?) were watchable action films. (I actually rather enjoyed No.3 on its own) Not masterpieces, certainly, but no need to call them rubbish. Except for No. 4

That seems like an exceedingly special position to take. While granting the chance that the

Quite right, No. 4 already did that, stretching beyond rational bounds in a really 2nd rate hack Sci Fi writer fashion.

Now that is heresy. Aliens (No. 2) was hardly best of the bunch. It was fun, a sort of American Smash Up in Space, reasonably although not entirely consistent with No. 1. Best, bollocks.

I know you are but what am I. (runs away)

I take your point, and will try to restate my opinion less stridently.
Alien: a landmark, classic, superbly effective Horror Film

as opposed to

The three sequels: “watchable Action Films” that exist only because the original was so good.
No comparison in my book.

Perhaps. I just think that questions are sometimes better than answers, the biomechanical Space Jockey (and ship) being a case in point.
