The trailer for Prometheus

I try to be skeptical of trailers, but this one’s broken through my defenses:

Looks like incredible fun.

Oh. Ancient astronauts. How original.

I still trust Scott, though.

this trailer gives me 37 boners, each of which has it’s own little boner

I’m very interested to see what Noomi Rapace can do in her first major English movie (I don’t really count her small role in Sherlock Holmes). It looks amazing.

This movie is gonna totally fuckin’ rock!

Alas, shot in ubiquitous Blu-O-Vision, like everything else these days.

Still, probably go see it. Look like one that needs big-screen viewing to appreciate, since it will probably be story-lite and sfx heavy. I doubt it will replace Aliens in my affections, however.

Hot chicks in skim suits: checked. Distant mysterious planet: checked. Aliens: Checked. Ridley Scott: checked. Very hot chicks in skim suits: checked.

What are the chances that this goes wrong?

<shudder>

That’s 74 boners for those of you keeping track.

I’ll have you know that my boner rating has been within 5 points of the aggregated Rotten Tomatoes rating on 90% of all summer blockbusters for the last 12 months.

Zero boners comes pretty close to filling that criteria.

More footage here at IDMB:

more trailers and a 3 minute scene (not in the movie) of Guy Pearce as Weyland Industries’ CEO Peter Weyland.

Conceived and designed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott, (the Weyland) piece was created for TED. It is not a scene from the movie. The piece provides a look into what may lay ahead, as well as important backstory into the mythology explored in Prometheus.

TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, formed to disseminate “ideas worth spreading.”

I liked the mystery of the Space jockey and hope they do justice to his backstory.

The Space Jockey!

Went to the movies yesterday (saw Safe House - it was OK), and they showed a trailer for this movie. It looks awesome, and having Idris Elba in it is a bonus.

They also showed a trailer for a movie called Battleship, which looks so fucking awful i can barely believe it got made.

Hello. I’m the Doctor.

I don’t think we really need to know anything about the Space Jockey.

I can’t figure out what he’s doing here. The space ship? looks an awful lot like the one from Alien, and we see what appears to be the other alien pilot (the one who seemed to be part of his chair, and had a burst-open chest) in another scene in the trailer. And the way the title appears is done in the same way that R/Greenberg Associates did the (then) ground-breaking title for Alien, so he’s clearly going out of his way to invoke his 1979 opus.
And then going out of his way to say it’s not the same thing.
“Hey, folks. You may remember I did science fiction before. It looked like this. I’m going to do science fiction again, but it’s completely different. Even though it looks the same.”

I could be wrong, but I thought they were making it pretty clear this is an “Alien” prequel.

We had a thread about this. Almost unbelievably, it’s based on the board game.

The last go-round with reporters had Scott admitting that it takes place within the Alien universe but isn’t a “prequel” per se. Just that it takes place before Alien.
