Look. I’m new. Other boards, if you restart a dead thread, you’re in shit. So I wasn’t going to restart it. I didn’t want to just PM people out of the blue, because other places I’ve been, that’s considered bad form. Then people said I’d be evasive or something if I didn’t reply ‘in public’ so here I am.
So forgive my n00b mistakes in this. My intent was to warn people who had asked questions and were waiting for answers that I’d PM and then if someone didn’t want a PM they’d tell me not to PM them. I never thought this thing would go on and on and on.

Might want to consider reading all the posts in a thread before jumping to a conclusion – that way when you say something dumb, you at least can feel confident in knowing you did due diligence before putting your foot in it.

You should, because the thread you got into all the trouble on was a direct result of that first thread, PRR’s “Thank You” thread, where Liberal behaved very badly. Your defense of him in Jim’s thread can’t hold much water if you don’t even know what he did to cause that Pit thread addressed to him.
You went off half-cocked in the closed thread, obviously, if you didn’t even read the source thread. And you’ve gone off half-cocked if you’re bitching about how people conduct themselves on this board when you don’t know the difference between the Board and a Forum on the board.
The BBQ Pit is an important part of this board. I would even contend that it’s necessary for the proper functioning of the SDMB. Are you suggesting that we should all abandon using it because it offends your sensibilities? Because to your sensibilities, I will respond with your favorite word: SO?

See, maybe this is where one of the breakdowns are. I don’t believe anyone truly cares, in the sense one means in real life, unless that person is their friend. I believe that ‘attention-whore’ is used as a label or shorthand to describe a behavior. In this case, that people feel is annoying. I don’t see it taken much beyond that.
I’m not sure. I suppose it would be up to the individual, but for myself, it correlates to the circumstances. I would pitch a holy hell hissy fit if someone grouped me with a bunch of homophobes whether it wasn’t meant as anything but lightly or not. On the other hand, if someone erroneously assumed I was a trekkie, I’d just be amused. If they took that further though, and followed me all around the board with it constantly, I’d be creeped out, annoyed and want them to stop. And that’s just my perspective.
Glad to help. It’s at least mostly what I pay my therapist for. I do commend you for trying to keep up to and answer all these posts. Hang in there. There’s always something here to be learned. It’s the boards beauty in general (heh) and the pit’s in particular.
