A panicky MMP!

Gnrfl grmp where coffee, WHERE? Well, looks like the fucking snow is finally going away, it’s getting up into the forties today and it’s gonna be raining for a week–three inches of rain on top of 19" of snow. Yeah. Flooding is a very real likelihood. Since the ground is all nice and frozen this shit is gonna run off like a spooked horse, straight into the creeks. We really depend on the absorbency of our soils around here and it ain’t good when it gets impaired.

Himself is working today–he has a new LCD monitor on order that was SUPPOSED to be delivered yesterday, but DHL is the worst fucking delivery company in the world so it won’t be in until Monday, probably arriving at about 1659. This wouldn’t ordinarily be an issue, but his CRT monitor is starting to crap out on him so we’re crossing our fingers that it will hold out. I’m thinking of just ordering another damned monitor for store pickup at Fry’s–he’s going to need a dual monitor setup eventually anyway, since he needs one display for remote desktop to the customer’s computer and one for his own resources. Of course, the DVI-D to VGA adapter I ordered ALSO hasn’t come in so he can’t hook two monitors up yet but since one won’t be here for two days that’s moot, right?

Delivery of all types has been crap due to the weather–we haven’t gotten any Netflix movies in all week even though the mail carrier’s been by every day. My neighbor got her truck stuck right in front of my mailbox, too, which isn’t helping. I had a shipment of wool socks that would have come in VERY HANDY this week but UPS is a buncha wimps and hasn’t delivered them yet. I am just all fulla grr today!

Better go get some coffee and I think I need to go drive somewhere… Did I mention that the heater fan in the van decided to just give up and not work a couple days ago? Yeah. That sucks too.

Coffee. Need coffee. Sure hope everybody else is in a better mood than I this morning!

Thanks! Interesting how, after over a decade of posting on this board, I still discover bits of the SDMB culture I didn’t know about.

Break time! I’ve been working in my studio for almost 2 hours, and it’s tough to see any progress. There’s soooooooo much crap strewn about down there! I did load a bunch of FCD’s tools and accessories on my studio cart for him to take to his shop. He removed the small drill press and the mortiser, so that got 2 things out of the way. I wiped down accumulated dust and swept and vacuumed a bunch of stuff. I ran a load of towels and rags. I’ve filled a trash can and a big leaf bag, tho that hardly counts, since it’s mostly full of a cheap plastic canopy thing that’s more air than substance.

I was sorting one box o’ crap and came across pics of my sweetie and his ex - prom pics and such, a letter from his dad to him from 10 years ago, a note from our daughter to him from when she was in high school, letters I’d written to him in 1984 when I was deployed to Spain (before our 1st anniversary!!) and photos from a business trip he’d made to Italy. What a stroll down memory lane…

I also had to stop and snag Taz at least 3 times. He snuck in and started fights with Cleo. It’s gotten to the point that if I open the door to the stairs, she hisses. Stoopit cats.

I’m about to take a shower, then take my sweetie out to lunch. Afterwards, I can return to the fun of that gawd-awful mess. Where is the cleaning fairy when you need her?

I KNOW!!! It’s the End of Days. Next thing you know, we’re getting locusts. The fog last night was awesome, I agree. Looked like a vampire movie with the fog blowing everywhere.

And today? 60 degrees.

Back from lunch. Not at all inclined to go back into the basement, but I probably will - if only to get 1 or 2 more things taken care of. I don’t know where my motivation went, but I really want to just be a bum. This being a responsible adult gets old really fast…

Closing in on 60 F here also. Warmer tomorrow, but rain is forecast. Bizarro weather.

Howdy, all. I’m here. Not doing much but knitting because I just got a couple rush knitting projects added to the mix – a young man in my mom’s church who just came off a deployment to Iraq is being sent to Afghanistan in a couple weeks, so I’m busy knitting him a helmet liner and watch cap to match the military socks that I fortunately have knit already so can just wrap up and send him. I can thank the Dope for introducing me to the pattern, back when Tripler was in Afghanistan a while back, so I’m glad it will be put to good use. The young man’s exact response when asked if he’d like one, was, “Awesome!” Here’s hoping he feels that way once he gets it. I suspect I may be knitting more helmet liners when his buddies see this one, if it really does help him stay warm. Which is fine; I’m always happy to help people stay warm.

Rain on top of snow, eh? We’ll just be getting the rain, no snow. Although right now it’s just warm and warming up rapidly – I guess we’ll get you Chicago folks’ weather in a couple of days. I suspect the Idiots would rather have snow to play in, however, even if they do have fun playing in warm weather. Today they got to play with a couple of little kids over at the schoolyard, whose mom had brought them over to use their new Christmas scooters in the parking lot. So every time they’d make a circuit of the parking lot, they expected one or both dogs to be there to get fussed over. The dogs were happy to oblige, needless to say; they love little kids, Isaac especially.

Sounds like things are going okay for most folks here. Except for** {{kai}}** – please feel free to share here if you want; we’re always ready to listen. And take care in all those winds! Oh, and those of you who may get flooding in your area? Please be careful!

Back to knitting and/or working, what little work I have. I sure hope some more comes in next week, or we’re going to be hurting for a bit. :frowning: Oh well, at least January is a 3-paycheck month for Papa Tigs; that should help.

Good moooooorrrrniing everyone!

I’m up, the coffee is brewed, and I’ve got the stock simmering for the prime rib soup. It should very, very yummy.

We saw the pavement on our street for the first time in well over a week! The snow is definitely melting, but like Smartie, we’ve got flooding warnings for our county.

kai, hang in there. You know we’re here if you need to vent.

Wow, doggio, I’m glad the cancer in your mother is not spreading. Are they going to remove the tumor?

Nothing much else going on here in Taterland. I basically spent most of the day loafing yesterday. It was very nice!

Gee. It’s snowing. At this point, that is anything but a surprise. But it’s nice, since it isn’t the same sort of storm we just had.

{{{{{anybody who needs one}}}}}

Break time again. **FCD **and I moved the door that will be installed in my studio in the spring - it’s leaning against the wall where it’ll replace the window. So now all the assorted scrap wood, as well as my countertops, are free to be sorted and tossed or saved as required. I put a few things in my cabinets down there, but mostly I’m just cramming things away. Once the counters are installed, I’ll get everything spread out so I can organize it properly.

The one side of the studio will remain storage for tools and hardware until we build the new garage and convert the existing garage to his workshop entirely. I’ll need to tidy that up for safety, if nothing else. There’s so much crap on the floor, it’s dangerous to walk back there.

The worst of the job is all the dust. Between the concrete saw, the woodsaw and the sheetrock dust, there’s a thick coat all over the place, I sweep what I can and wipe down the rest. I’ll be so glad to get that back under control.

Still waiting for the tidy fairy…

It’s warm and rainy here. Like, 10C kind of warm, which is just wreaking havoc on my poor brain. I’d actually take snow over this crud any day of the week.

Mumsy Dearest was bundled into a cab with all her stuff, and is now en route back to Montreal. Hallelujah. Much as I love spending time with my mother, five days is just a bit more than I can handle without going completely insane… especially when one of those days involves Boxing Day shopping.

Now to plan the rest of the holiday break… hmmm.

{{{Mumpers}}} Help yourself to one, anyone who needs one. Oh, and good thoughts for your mom, canineservant, and thanks for the good wishes for Papa Tigs and me health-wise. I refuse to get worried about either of us at this point; it just doesn’t do a damn bit of good. Plus it’ll probably amount to nothing for both of us. Right?

Moooom, when you find the tidy fairy, please send her to my house, okay? We’ll be happy to offer her a permanent home. Heaven knows she’d never have a lack of things to do!

Are you at work, snowbunny? If so, call me after you get home, okay? No reason, just to yak.

I’m almost done with the neck ribbing on the helmet liner. It’s amazing how boring K2/P2 ribbing can be when you’re doing it around 84 stitches for six or seven inches. (The pattern calls for six, but I’m thinking an extra inch might not hurt.) At least, once I finish the ribbing, the rest of the pattern is much more interesting. And then, after the watch cap, which I can knock out in 2-3 hours, it’s back to SIL’s hat, which is about 80% done at this point. Oh, and the second hotpad has been started. Oh, and then I need to knit the scarf and hat for Young Tiger, since he’s the only family member who hasn’t been the [del]unfortunate[/del] lucky recipient of my knitting recently. At least for the stuff for my mom, I have till the middle of February, which is when I go help her out after her knee surgery. Extra time is a Good Thing sometimes.

I’m definitely planning ahead better for next Christmas’s knitting, though!

Oh, and I’ve actually been doing a little $$-earning work today, too. Which, since “a little” is all I have available, has been attacked in a seriously desultory fashion. Hopefully next week will bring something in to be worked on. I’m not feeling terribly optimistic, however. Oh well, at least I’ll have the first week of January, when everyone gets busy again, to make some $$ so we don’t starve. Food is good. :dubious:

Back to work. Or knitting. Or reading. Or laundry, if Papa Tigs has finished his load of bleach-to-death whites. Clearly men’s undies are made FAR more durably than women’s, considering that he bleaches his regularly and yet they survive for years, whereas I wash mine on delicate and they fall apart in a year or less even when I’ve paid extra to buy theoretically good quality.

Welcome to the MMP, Baldwin. You’re free to come and go as you like and don’t worry about trying to stay caught up - sometimes we’ve gotten to page 3 and it’s still Monday - other weeks it takes until Wednesday to get there.
Also sometimes the MMP starts late Sunday evening - we try to remember to post the link for the new thread in the old one, but we forget a lot, too.
Also, now that you’re here - I’d suggest Alec. but Smartiepants (SmartAlec) might think we’re talking to her - There’s always Adam (I’m a Firefly fan) - or Billy, Stephen, (what’s the 4th one’s name?)

Well, I wasted the rest of my day. Supper was cheese and crackers because I didn’t feel like cooking.

I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow - out of milk. And I want a beef stew, so I need to get some stew meat. So maybe tomorrow, I’ll get something done.

Tidy Fairy never did show up, the bitch…

Did I forget to mention the nicknaming thing in my post above? Silly me - that’s what this sentance

was all about

Home, Canes lost, more work tomorrow.

Taters, they took the whole thing with the biopsy(I told you it was small).

Thanks for all the well wishes, the storm was a wild one, but we never lost power nor had any trees fall on us. The big wind died out a bit after midnight, we are at 20 F/-7 C (windchill 8 F/-13 C) with a breeze out of the WNW at 15 mph. The sun is below the yardarm (I need a boat drink!) and the forecast is for winds from the NW at 20+ mph with snow showers, temps between 18 F and 1 F. Hey, could someone tell me how to make the degree sign please?

My woes mostly revolve around my floundering marriage, skiffman has been being an absolute jerk, in addition to #2 daughter being a crazy bint (my new Scottish epithet) and the fact that I don’t do the short day season gracefully at all. If I end up single in the long run, I am moving someplace with fricken normal seasons, damnit. Why can’t we have Christmas in August? Or even October? Oh, and one of my pommies has something wrong with her, it looks to me to be a certain genetic “disease” that poms are prone to. She is in no pain or threat of demise, but her coat is falling out, and her skin is very dry. As in it’s flaking off in one big sheet I have to pick out of her coat. Anyway, it’s gonna cost me money just to make certain it really isn’t a thyroid or food allergy, etc. issue.

Anyway, I had fabulous news on Christmas morning. #1 daughter is pregnant again! Yay for more grandbabies!

Anyway, the big kids just came in, so I have to get off the computer. Thanks for the support you guys.

omgwtfkillmenowgahhhhhhhh

Sorry. The past several days have been pure insanity at work. I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep since Christmas.

:: scatters hugs and kisses before scampering off ::

Good morning! Scruffy let me sleep till 7 when her pee alarm went off. I was watching West Side Story on our public television station, but I fell asleep before the rumble, so I think I got a little over 8 hours. Yay!

**kai **- I get the º from the Character Map. On a PC, it’s Start - Programs - Accessories - Systems Tools - Character Map, then I copy and paste.

Incidentally, it’s 60ºF at the moment - that’s just too surreal for a late December morning. It’s also a little breezy and very grey. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t rain.

Haze, young lady, get of the computer and get some sleep! :stuck_out_tongue:

Plans for today? Who knows? Who cares? I’m on vacation!!

Kisses to all, just because! MWAH!!

Dang - are all the Mumpers sleeping in? We’ve been to 3 different stores and had breakfast and just finished opening the house - it’s so nice and mild out. We’re about to start emptying the wood pile from my studio.

Busy busy.

Outta bed, you slugs! :stuck_out_tongue:
