I tried to search, but for all the cat threads in this place, “cat” is not a searchable term.
I have new cats. One is probably a little under 2 years old. She’s a calico and at the top of the healthy weight range for her size. She pants a little after vigorous play, but if I take her outside, even if she doesn’t exert herself, she pants heavily with her mouth wide open. She is not holding her mouth in what I think of as the classic flehmen position, plus I’ve never had a cat pant while she did this. When presented with fresh catnip, she does the same. She doesn’t drink water or throw herself on a cool surface (it’s in the 80s here), but continues to pant for about 5 minutes after she comes inside. I’m wondering if something’s wrong, or if she’s just a vomeronasal kind of girl. Thanks.
