A parting gift for the homophobes

Yes. Now cut it out.

I don’t know how the gays do it, but the way I do it is pretty fun. And lot’s of gay men DO NOT PRACTICE ANAL SEX!!! So is it gay sex, or just anal sex that your against?

Blah, blah, blah…

Heterosexuals get some funky diseases, too. I’ve got a book on the subject. There are one or two others available.

Sex between any two people is a pretty risky proposition. From a hygeine standpoint it’s, well, nasty!!! For straights AND gays.

If we really thought about it, we wouldn’t do it.

Who am I kidding? We would too…

RTF, I just reread my post and realized it might sound abrasive. I didn’t mean to come across that way, so if I did, I’m sorry.

I do, however, have one other thing to say: We, as Americans, have the right to try to legislate whatever we want, as long as it’s in line with the Constitution. That’s the beauty of a Democratic Republic.

However, I haven’t seen anybody advocate legislation against gays. I saw gobear (normally a lucid and rational person) turn rabid and drooling over how Christians supposedly want him tarred, feathered, burned at the stake, and fired from his job for being gay, but if somebody said that’s how it should be, I must have missed it.

I have seen people like His4Ever and JerseyDiamond say that homosexual behavior (the actions, not the urge, Iampunha) is a sin according to the bible, and I agree. But nobody has advocated persecution and attacks against anybody - at least not that I’ve seen.

The only attacks I’ve seen in this thread are from the tolerant, rational, and intelligent people:

Hmmm…maybe I’m missing something if that’s loving and Jersey and His4Ever and I are hateful.

As I said above, nobody is condemning gay people. But I know that Jesus didn’t call us to be “cool” and make everybody happy.

But I could be wrong…let’s double check, shall we?

Nope, nothing about being “cool”.

…Unless you have a different version than I do?

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hoist-by-your-own-petard, I-can’t-believe-they-just-said-that, straight supremacist quote of the week! Marvel at the irony, and be afraid.

So, what’s the score now?

Straight supremacists - 0
Rational human beings - 388,837,283,274

I guess, since they won’t leave the field, we can just keep pounding them, but it seems kinda cruel; they obviously have no idea how to play the game. I don’t think they even know they’re losing.

WOO HOOO!!!

I got noticed in someone elses post! I swoon!

Holy Moley I finally said something someone that was worth noticing!!! writes this down on the calendar

of course it was my one and only nasty irrational comment in this thread… but cant have everything can I?

Well, speaking personally, I don’t see where you did anything of the sort.

Going waaay back to the OP, I like the proposed new term. I’m going to start using it instead of homophobe where applicable.

The problem is, the Bible says other things that Christians choose not to be bound by. That seems to be true regardless of denomination; the only question is whether they admit it or whether they use one of a number of rationalizations. For instance:

The problem is, the “special needs” examption is stated nowhere in the Bible that I’ve ever heard of. I’m assuming that either you made that up, or someone else in post-Biblical times did. This seems to be one element of a set of extra-Scriptural set of rules for judging Scripture, of man’s devise.

[rant]
Someday I want to see the complete set of these rules, but fundies only trot out one such rule or another as it applies to a particular discussion, so there’s never a time when I feel I’m discussing Scripture on even terms with a fundie. I want the Secret Handshake that will get Pat Robertson’s minions, or some functionary on the Southern Baptist Convention Sunday School Board, to reveal the entire list to me.
[/rant]

Apology accepted.

You do have the Constitutional right. I made reference to the moral right.

Over the past two decades or so, I’ve watched conservative Christians in Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia fight tooth-and-nail to preserve laws making homosexual sodomy a crime. And then turn around and say “So-and-so (a gay or lesbian) isn’t morally fit to hold such-and-such a state office, because they’d have to promise to uphold the laws, which they continually violate, being in a gay/lesbian relationship.”

There’s also a ton of times when conservative Christians have fought against gay marriage or other legal recognition of gay unions, when they’ve fought against state and local governments extending spousal benefits to gay partners, when they’ve fought against including “sexual orientation” in the list of outlawed reasons to discriminate against someone in employment, housing, etc.

And on the national level, there’s the Defense of Marriage Act.

And that justifies the savage attitude shown in this thread towards specific individuals who had nothing to do with any of that?

Then let me retract the word “cool” and exchange it with loving and forgiving. And Joe_Cool, would you please come into
this thread and give me your take?

Joe, I can clearly see your point. Neither you, Jersey, nor His4Ever have advocated in this thread (or anywhere else I know of) those things that RT highlighted.

However, neither have you spoken out against the people that would enact into law the prohibitions of Scripture (as you read them) against gay people. It has been those who quote the Bible against gay people who have been insistent that equal rights under the Constitution are not appropriate for them – and before you get angry, neither of us is at risk of losing our job for desiring to fall in love with, have sex with, and marry women, nobody is prepared to throw us out of the property we rent or own because of our sex lives, nobody (sane, anyway) is suggesting that our commitment to the person we love should be considered a travesty of American values, etc. These are all advocated by outspoken people who have said the things the three of you have said. Do you wonder that people on the other side of the argument are angry with you for identifying with those outspoken people? If you choose to believe that having gay sex offends God more than the hatred those outspoken people show, and that it’s your responsibility to Him to tell gay people that, that’s your business. If you choose to ally yourself with the people who advocate civil disabilities for being gay, then you have gone beyond the pale. And what has been said to date suggests that you are doing that allying, and you have said nothing to refute it.

As a challenge (and I’ll bear the responsibility for asking you to do so if you feel witnessing in the Pit is against board rules), what would you say to gobear or Mr Visible about why they ought to become Christians (assuming for the nonce that they are now not)? That is what I asked above, and I ask again.

So what about the gay man who remains celibate? Is he, like, un-gay because he doesn’t engage in any “homosexual acts”?

As a matter of fact, we’ve got such a man on this board, though I think it’d be pretty hard to coax him into this thread.

Oh. One other question for you. As I think I’ve mentioned to you before, I’m bisexual. Does that mean, to you, that my attraction to women is automatic and my attraction to men is something I’ve taught myself? And if that is true, then how do you explain that I first realized my sexuality when I was extremely sexually attracted to a man in a movie? I wasn’t asked “Now, come on, punha, you find him attractive, right? Right?;)”

Oh, as for skin color not being able to be changed … ::resists the urge to jokingly bring up Michael Jackson::

If I may, I’d like to thank some of the wonderful posters who have been debating here. I’m a coward- as a gay Christian, I’ve gotten a lot of flack from both sides for my life and so I have an anathema towards discussing my faith, which I constantly wrestle with. Around here I tend to feel out of my league anyway. And, well, it’s nice to know that there are people here who are willing to cover for my silence.

So thank you. Carry on.

Wrong, Poly. Check out page 1, where His4ever spake thusly:

Well gee, there’s a shock.

A person has no choice as to what sexuality they are born with, either. Let me say this with very simple words, so that your enfeebled, cult-whore mind can understand: I am gay, but I never chose to be gay. Anyone who says “gay people choose to be gay” is lying scum. You don’t get to choose you love in this life.

Being gay is a condition, not an action. Its WHO YOU ARE not WHAT YOU DO. I’m sitting here typing at my iMac, and I’m just as gay now as I would be were I having sex. Of course, maybe my vocabulary is too advanced for you. Perhaps there’s a “Gays Don’t Choose It” pop up book somewhere that’s more your speed.

Kirk

You use an iMac?
That is soooo gay!

[tangent]

A flat screen iMac, an iBook and an iPod, actually. I had a PowerBook, but it got stolen in Paris, so I replaced it with the iBook. Both computers are running Jaguar, naturally.

[/tangent]

The thing you don’t understand is that being gay is something you can’t understand.

Just like a white person cannot fully understand what it’s like to be black. You can’t understand what it’s like to be gay.

You think of it as some sort of sexual deviance someone decides to do. If you think it’s a choice that someone easily selects YOUR CRAZY! Why do you think that gay teenagers have the highest suicide rate of any demographic? IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP! OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING! Because people like you are telling them they are evil, deviants that are going to Hell!

Can you imagine what it’s like to be a teenager talking to one of your friends who’s telling you about some hot girl (or boy in your case I think you’re a woman aren’t you?) and all your thinking about is how hot your friend is? Or how you’ll never be truly able to show the love you feel for him/her? Well I can, and it wasn’t a choice I made.
.
You don’t wake up one day and decide your gay, you wake up and accept it. Why would anyone choose to be hated, feared, or discriminated against?

Whoa, friend! How about if I hold you responsible only for your own words, and you do the same for me?

I apparently misinterpreted one thing you said above. When you said, “I haven’t seen anybody advocate legislation against gays,” I assumed you meant in general, rather than in this thread. I should’ve picked up your meaning from the context. But that’s why I gave you that long list, rather than simply citing H4E as minty did.

FWIW, I think that litany of anti-gay legislation certainly helps explain, if not justify, the anger of gays and their friends toward those such as H4E who believe it is morally legitimate to legislate against equal rights for gays on the basis of the Bible.

BTW Just one more thing. If God sends me to hell for the way He made me, I hope I don’t get stuck in the room Jesse Helms is in.

His4ever

Perhaps there is no greater sin than to place the burdens of your own heart upon the shoulders of others. And yet you do this over and over. Deliberately.

You remind me of the Pharisee who prayed thanking God that he was not like the sinners. Wake up, my sister!
