A total of four people died after a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday (Jan. 6).

The LA Times is reporting that Merrick Garland will be Biden’s choice for Attorney General.
There aren’t smiles big enough for this little tidbit.
Wait - what did Pence do that they’re calling treason?
Tell Trump he was going to follow the Constitution today, according to the NYTimes.
Never attribute to insanity that which can be explained by cocaine.
Slight nitpick. This battle isn’t between Trumpers and never Trumpers. The never Trumpers were wiped out quite a while ago. This is between those who enable Trump vs those who would die for him.
Fair point. In my mind the newly anti-trumpers would coalesce with the never-trumpers but there’s probably too much animosity.
Precisely!!! So succinct, so well put.
I like the payback aspect. Suitably schadenfreude-ish.
I worry that Garland, a Justice Department neophyte, might have a long breaking-in period. And we need action on signaling that Trump-era malfeasance won’t be tolerated, right away.
I don’t know if the Trump Mob’s actions today might inspire Garland to have a bit of fire in his belly or not. He seems kind of milquetoast to me. Maybe I’m wrong (hope so).
Garland has a fair bit of DoJ experience: prosecutor, deputy assistant attorney general in the Criminal Division, principal deputy associate Attorney General, and one of the lead prosecutors in the early stages of the OK bombing prosecutions, and other terrorist investigations.
Thanks for that. My point, if I’d offered a more detailed argument, would be that his experience with the Justice Department is quite a while in the past (around 25 to 40 years ago).
But it’s a done deal. We will hope that he will not only make headway in undoing the injustices (!) perpetrated by the Trump Administration, but will also have the stomach to hold the TA to account for crimes committed by its operatives and by its head.
Has this been vetted?

Like you, I am reluctant to take the word of a news organization that reports on the “District of Colombia police” but for what it’s worth, here’s their cite.
In the height of irony, the woman trampled to death in the mob attacking the Capitol was carrying a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag.
Some things you just can’t make up.
A woman who was reportedly trampled to death during a riot inside the U.S. Capitol was reportedly obsessed with the QAnon conspiracy theory, according to her friends and family. A photo shows that she carried a Gadsden "don't tread on me" flag at a...
Holy shit, that’s funny.
How on earth can those who desires a Strong Man Leader put up with this amount of pathetic crying and whining?
They don’t perceive it as whining. They see it as speaking truth to power. The lib’ruls have literally all the power, and straight, white, cisgender rich men are the most downtrodden people in the world.

That’s right. Instead of seeing Donald as a whiner, they see him as valiantly battling an unfair “system” on their behalf. Straight white cisgender rich men won’t stand for any more of this mistreatment!!!1!!!
In the words of the semi-old saying: To the privileged, equality feels like oppression.
(An attempt to find valid attribution for that truism may be of interest, even though it has zero schadenfreude content:

Josh Hawley is not having a good day. The Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, two major papers in Missouri, have called for his resignation. His mentor John Danforth, former MO senator, says Hawley was the worst mistake of his life. And now protestors in downtown St. Louis want him gone.
Now if only the same would happen to Ted Cruz.
… Now if only the same would happen to Ted Cruz.
Ted isn’t looking at Texas newspapers today any more than Hawley is looking at Missouri ones:
… The Houston Chronicle ’s editorial board published a scathing piece on Friday, blaming the firebrand Texas senator for his role in encouraging the pro-Trump riots that took place at the US Capitol. …
The San Antonio paper of record has also called for Teddy-boy to go away.
'Resign and deliver Texas from the shame of calling you our senator,' wrote the Houston Chronicle editorial board
