A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 1)

Stupid question: If my lawyer tells me to say or do somesuch thing ( “Deny everything! Blame the milkman!”) on the stand, is that covered by attorney-client privilege?

I heard his judge is a Trump appointee. Not exactly sure how that will benefit him in a case this open and shut.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that discussions of plans regarding as yet uncommitted crimes, (such as perjury in your example) are not covered by attorney client privilege. However, in this case since its is a point of contention what the legal limits are regarding required testimony, I think the lawyer advising that his client should evoke executive privilege or the 5th amendment would be covered, even if Bannon and his lawyer have discussed the fact that the documents Congress is asking for includes proof that Bannon committed treason.

Might help, might not. We watched a lot of Trump appointees quickly and sometimes disdainfully tossing the election challenges out of court. We’ve seen that he doesn’t own those people.

The client can always waive the privilege if they want the court to hear they were relying on advice of counsel

Here is the nonsensical first sentence of that story on CNN.com:

(CNN)The Trump Organization has reached a deal with the investment fund CGI Merchant Group to purchase the lease for the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, for $375 million, according to a person familiar with the matter.

They also say:

Former President Donald Trump’s company had been in advanced talks with CGI Merchant Group this fall to sell the lease of the hotel

So if Trump Org. is selling the lease, does that mean that the $375M is going to them, or some of it, or none of it? What a crappily-written story.

Yes; the sentence states quite clearly that The Trump Organization is going to purchase the lease.

It’s not so much that today’s news-story writers (I won’t say “journalists”) never learned to diagram sentences—it’s more that today’s news-story writers never spent any time in their lives reading anything other than headlines on screens.

If you read a lot, you get a feel for the sense of a sentence. Whoever wrote that monstrosity has no such ability.

It looks like trump got the lease from the US gov who owns the building in 2013 and pays 3 million a year rent for 60 years , plus promised to put in 200 million to renovate. The rent would scale up as the building made more revenue.
So the rent liability is still 156 million, and they should have put 200 million into renovations which I would imagine was all in loans that would have had interest and need to be paid back out of that 375 million.

I dont think much of the 375 million is going to Trumps pockets, but I am not a real estate financier either.

Although I think it likely that the 200 mil. Trump “spent” to renovate were done by John Baron construction which billed 100k per toilet.

AP News: Trump ally Bannon taken into custody on contempt charges

Is he still in jail? The good news for this triumphant champion of far-right populism might be that he finally gets a bath (or a shower) at taxpayer expense, whether he wants one or not. He always looks like he hasn’t had one in months and is probably being followed by a swarm of flies.

LOL, dude, not only was he not in jail, before he left for the arraignment (or whatever) he gave a pro-Insurrectionist speech. And then was released… without bail!

America, what a system!

“It’s a madhouse! A madhouse!!”

I think it was Colbert who called him “the best-looking guy at the liquor store.”

Well, according to certain religious texts that seems accurate. Or just based on what he’s full of anyway.

“At 1am”

There is just no bottom to the insanity:

After the 2020 election, ex-Trump attorney and adviser Sidney Powell reportedly tried to enlist a Department of Defense official to help retrieve then-CIA Director Gina Haspel from what Powell believed to be a secret, election-related mission in Germany…

The Trump attorney believed Haspel had been injured while completing a secret CIA operation aiming to seize and destroy evidence of vote tampering on an election-related computer server, Karl reports. She thought the CIA was complicit. None of it was true…

[senior intelligence official Ezra] Cohen, for his part, “thought Powell sounded out of her mind,”…

Yeah, he doesn’t have quite the pull with folks whose jobs are beyond his control.

I don’t understand how Trump’s sliminess still manages to surprise me, but it does. He’s a terrible human being.

Has anyone read this the new Jonathon Karl book about Trump?

More like behind the liquor store.
