A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 1)

That’s a very nice thing to say. Thank you.

You and me both.

Tell it.
Seriously. I am so tired of people making excuses for Trump. “He doesn’t believe he lost.” Fuck that excuse making bullshit. Trump is a liar. It doesn’t go any deeper than that. He’s lying, for fuck’s sake. It’s what he does.
But people: keep making excuses for him, I’m sure he appreciates the assist.

This might be another source of schadenfreude:

Day 2 of the Jan. 6 committee hearings on Monday featured members of Trump’s inner circle describing how they tried to dissuade Trump from claiming the election was stolen. Meadows was not among them.

As the Jan. 6 committee’s hearings head toward their third session on Thursday, Meadows’ murky role in aiding and abetting Trump’s actions will likely become clearer. Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin said what Meadows did behind the scenes leading up to the Jan. 6 attack may be the hearings’ “most intriguing question.” As she framed it: “If White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows knew claims of fraud were bogus (‘no there there,’ as he put it), what was he doing as the plot built momentum?”

Maybe they’re working their way up the ladder?

The fraud I was referring to was soliciting 250 million dollars in donations to a legal defense fund that did not\does not exist.

Shit, the “no” was supposed to be “wire”. I don’t know how autocorrect changed that (that was written from my phone). There are suggestions that his solicitations for money, being based on lies, could constitute fraud. Especially as it was not used for the purpose he claimed. There are also specific campaign laws regarding how that money can be used that he likely violated.

And I don’t understand why everyone is suddenly pretending that it matters whether or not Trump knew.

The J6 committee and most Democratic spokespersons have been very clear that Trump had every right to pursue his election claims in a court of law. Which he did.

And those courts determined that he didn’t win. It doesn’t matter if he didn’t agree, he still wasn’t allowed to resort to extra-legal means to stay in office, whether those involved manufacturing fraudulent documents or killing Mike Pence. A prisoner isn’t allowed to escape from jail even if they truly believe they’re innocent.

I think some of the most compelling evidence that Trump had a consciousness of guilt lies in what he DIDN’T do.

He obviously felt that the people around him should’ve been willing to do ANYTHING to keep him in office, regardless of the legality. But he consistently attempted to protect himself by not taking certain direct actions himself, actions I believe he would’ve taken if he REALLY believed the bullshit.

He DIDN’T follow through on his off the cuff appointment of Sidney Powell as special counsel. According to multiple accounts, he made that appointment verbally on the evening of Dec 19th, and she was ready to start seizing voting machines. But he never formalized the appointment.

He DIDN’T fire Jeffrey Rosen (Barr’s replacement) for refusing to tell the state legislatures that the election was fraudulent and replace him with Jeffrey Clark, even though Clark was ready to send those letters, which had already been drafted, to the state legislatures.

Those would’ve been big bold actions that very well might have changed everything, and if someone truly believed the fraudulent election bullshit, I think would’ve taken them, regardless of the risk. But while Trump wanted his cronies, like Pence, to take that kind of drastic action, he would never do it himself, and I think it was because he knew that would get him in trouble.

As ever, very well said.

I wonder if Trump has two devils on his shoulders. One represents arrogance, the other represents cowardice. They are constantly whispering in his ears and at odds with each other.

I wonder if he ever has conversations with himself in front of a mirror…

I’ve had similar thoughts, except, that in my mental image, one is a stereotypical red mini-Trump devil, but wearing the worst, most ill fitting, baggy fake angel costume imaginable. The other just looks like Trump.

Must do because “rich inner life” is about the last thing that comes to mind where he’s involved.

I can’t imagine he can stand being alone for any length of time with the possible exception of watching television and even then, I would think he’d want a flunky nearby forced to listen and react to either his frustration or his poor attempts at wit and bon mots at whatever is being said on air.

Stop that! This is the pit. We’re here for the blood sports.

I pit people who identify other posters as favorites… the rest of us can read that, you know! And we had always assumed we were your favorites…

{sniff}

Apologies if this has been discussed before and I missed it, but can it maybe be argued that the end-game is for somebody to ultimately tell him “Look motherfucker, we’ve got you dead to rights. If you ride off into the sunset, never run again for office, never ‘endorse’ anyone else for office, then we’ll let this go. But if you want to keep being a nuisance and threaten to burn the country to the ground, then we will throw the kitchen sink at you”?

Basically have somebody give him the George Strait / Pure Country “Go on, get your ass outta here” speech and hope he agrees to this “plea bargain”?

That would never, ever work because of his pathological narcissism, which in him is a full-fledged mental illness. He is never wrong, and he absolutely must always be in the spotlight. He’d rather be dead than fade from the spotlight and the adulation of his sycophants.

In any case, such a proposal would be highly unethical and immoral. Once sufficient evidence against him exists, I believe there is both a moral and a legal obligation to prosecute. Which the orange shit-stain would react to by deploying a massive team of carnivorous lawyers, all snapping and howling and lying, and all the while basking in the publicity and the narcissistic joy of seeing his orange mug on the front pages all the time.

“Your proposal is acceptable.”

Carnivorous lawyers who snap and howl and lie expect to be paid. He’ll have to settle for the soy-eating lawyers who nibble and whimper and… well, I guess he can still get “lying”.

A conclusion (?) to this saga:

Yes. He might even give you money!
I meant TAKE your money.

Just give him money and he’ll pay you back in Trumpbux. They’re just as good as real money! (Disclaimer: Do not attempt to buy anything with Trumpbux.)
