He slunk away quietly and basically shut his pie-hole. I do love how the Maryland Court of Appeals disbarred him, calling him “morally obtuse”. He launched a charity that turned out to be a front for his anti-Israeli views.
He lost a lawsuit that required him to pay the state back for kickbacks and bribes he had received. Then he had the gall to try to make this payment tax deductible! (denied).
He died in relative obscurity, after circling the bowl.
Oh, yes, I remember him making the so-called jokes about being president for life like his BFF Xi of China. Considering everything that later transpired, it seems like he meant it! Scares me to death.
Certainly his golf shirts show off his torso flab much more than a suit and tie do. :: shudder ::
Anyone interested in a good recap of Spiro Agnew’s rise and fall should check out Rachel Maddow’s podcast Bag Man. Fascinating stuff, with some weird echoes of Trump.
I missed this until my daughter pointed it out to me:
On July 21 2022, anti-disinformation activist Nandini Jammi tweeted that NewsGuard (a subscription-based browser extension for tracking misinformation and disinformation by source) had downranked Fox News from “trustworthy” to “proceed with caution”
Disclaimer: I have no idea of the reliability of either website. At any rate, my response was “Do they have a ‘proceed with a hazmat suit’ rating?”
Note that the green/red distinction is based on a cutoff on some rating statistic where Red is 0-50 and green in 50-100. So it may jut be that Fox’s reliability rating dropped from 52 down to 48.
Vos first hired Michael Gableman in July 2021 as a special counsel under pressure from former President Donald Trump to relitigate his 2020 loss in the state, but the relationship between the Republican lawmaker and Gableman soured after Vos refused entreaties to decertify President Joe Biden’s victory in the state.
Vos’ move to end the probe came just days after he survived a primary challenge from an opponent that Trump and Gableman had backed.
They are saying HUNTER BIDEN!!! LAPTOP!!! CARAVAN!!! INFLATION!!! GAS PRICES!! MORE IRS AGENTS!!! THEY’RE COMING FOR YOU!!!
Safest bet on the planet: that those who blasted Hillary for supposed sloppy handling of classified data have NO problem whatsoever with Donald Trump stealing nuclear-arsenal secrets and keeping them in his basement.
…and where I HOPE the schadenfreude will come in: the possibility that millions of Americans who don’t usually pay all that much attention to the news, will think both that Donald’s conduct is indefensible, and that those GOP politicians defending it should not hold office—and therefore will come out to vote on November 8.
To be honest, I’m afraid that this is all so unbelievable that, at this point, people start deciding that it really is all made up because no one could be that dumb, not even Orange Florida Man.
Both political analysts on PBS News Hour tonight were quite sure that the raid* will be a political plus for TFG, that the TFG-endorsed candidates who had been struggling in the polls were seeing a strong uptick, and that this is bringing all the MAGAts together in strength. The only difference between the two is that one of them seemed to think that the raid should not have happened for that reason, and the other one said it had to be done and that we should be prepared to fight back. I hope they’re wrong about what’s next, but I’m not sanguine.
*“raid” being used as shorthand for the entirely legal and justified search on TFG’s Florida premises.
Raids often are legal and justified. Law enforcement has no obligation to be polite, give advance notice, or only arrive at a convenient time when serving a search warrant.
As a ginger bearded bald dude from Eastern Europe, I feel I might not have the right to feel schadenfreude about these things. But I do, and now this thread is one of my favorite places on the internet.
Normally I agree with both Brooks and Capehardt, but not this time. Most Americans are tired of Trump, and the cracks in his support are growing. Having Top Secret documents in his basement is difficult to explain.
