Yep. And at one point he approached a wide set of stairs. Nope, I’m gonna back up and take the ramp instead.
Did he actually turn on his emergency lights when he got back to the open road?
I liked how th epeople in the airport were just calmly getting out of the way, like they’d seen it before.
“Oh there’s Sergi being chased through the airport again. It must be Tuesday,”
Those videos just made my day. Thanks.
That was wild. I’m going to hear Yakety Sax in my head all day!
I’m very curious about what happened to that driver after all that.
Me too, so I went looking - 15 days in jail plus two charges outstanding when this went to press
j
ETA - or 27 days according to this
ETA: ninja’d!
15 days in jail.
There’s a not insignificant number of people out there who will think “worth it!”
Me, for one! That looked like fun, and well worth the time to have that kind of story to tell.
“Baby clothes.”
“This place has got everything.”
I was thinking that he was doomed if he stayed in the airport (eventually there will be a dead end and he’ll be cornered), but might be able to get away if he could get back outside and on a road. Then at the end it looked like he got outside, drove a hundred yards, and then stopped.
It’s not like he was going to get away it for long. The car was pretty damaged and there were loads of witnesses.
It was like when he reached a road where he realized the cops couldn’t keep up any more and would give up chasing him on foot, the fun was over.
I have to think the judge who handed out such a light sentence saw the video and couldn’t stop laughing.
The bar in Chicago was a great place to have a drink, the view was amazing. This is pre-presidency, of course.
What really hurts is that his hotel in DC s in the Old Post Office , one of the city’s great old buildings. It’s a stab in the heart every time I drive by it.
We took a family trip to D.C. one summer 5 or 6 years ago, and we were lucky enough to visit the Old Post Office before it became trumpified. There was a sign in front saying “Coming soon: trump International Hotel D.C.” We rode the elevator to the top of the clock tower and got to experience what was the highest view in D.C. at the time, since the Washington Monument was closed for repairs. The elevator was operated by a park ranger, since the tower was considered part of the National Park Service. Apparently that is still there and available to the public, at least.
To a certain extent, the Old Post Office building was a white elephant, and if the former guy (as Joe Biden has been calling him) wanted to throw money at it, well, good luck.
I worked in the Old Post Office for virtually all of '89. As I recall, the second floor roofs were very leaky – particularly during torrential rain – and I have no idea if they ever got fixed.
My husband thought that that security guard you see trying to get in the left-hand door in the second-last shot actually made it, and got control of the car. I’m not so sure - the last segment of the drive looks too controlled to be happening while a guard’s busy shoving him out of the way/punching him in the head/whatever else he might be doing. But it would explain the car stopping.
It took quite a bang to get over that last windowsill. Fair amount of vapor coming out of the engine well. I’m gonna guess he tore off his oil pan or otherwise compromised the engine so that last hundred yards was all the vehicle would do.
Since we’re completely off topic, if you enjoyed the airport chase you may enjoy this extremely comprehensive Top Gear review of the Ford Fiesta, which includes (about 57 seconds in) the question “What if I go to a shopping centre and get chased by baddies in a Corvette?”.
And if you enjoy that, keep watching for “What if I’m asked to take part in a beach assault with the Royal Marines?”.
Next time, use a Hilux
Yeah, and I take heart that it is losing money and he is trying to sell his interest.
