I’m hoping that the youngin’s are as leveraged as the old man is. One piece I saw yesterday was that if NY and/or the feds decide to go after TrumpCo, either in addition to or in place of the individuals, the banks – at least the US ones – will immediately call in their loans. In huge loans like that it’s written into the loan contract that a indicted company’s loans are immediately since the banks don’t want to be left holding the bag in case the company gets convicted and is forced to dissolve.
While they may have a magnificent income stream now – grift pays well while it lasts – if they have huge loans, like Trump was reported to have a couple years back, that stream is going to end and they have no realistic way of paying the loans.
Yes, and yes. That’s what I was thinking of in my post #1924. Allegedly the reason he was borrowing from Russians laundered through Deutsche Bank was because none of the other banks would lend to him. Those that have loans outstanding from the past will now have a reason – and the ability – to recall the loans of TrumpCo gets indicted.
For months now I’ve been trying to find succinct, linkable sources detailing how various organized crime figures have been indicted and convicted, despite their iron-clad habits of being indirect in their instructions to minions (to do crimes).
I guess my search terms are at fault as I’m not finding the on-point citations I want, but as we all know, many organized crime bosses HAVE been convicted and WERE indirect in their dealings with underlings.
There is no doubt at all that the NY prosecutors are well aware of the problem of proving that indirect communications can be just as effective as direct communications when it comes to inciting and committing crimes. I’m no expert but I’d guess it’s important to show a negative: that the crime boss (e.g. Donald Trump) could not have been unaware that the crime (e.g. tax fraud) was taking place.
This will be a fascinating story when it’s finally told.
I have been reading The Five Families by Selwyn Raab about the history of the New York Mafia. Getting direct evidence that various godfathers knew of or directed various crimes was indeed challenging. Prosecutors’ main weapons were wiretaps and informers or turncoats like Sammy Gravano who agreed to testify against their former associates. Don’t know about wiretaps but I’d bet there are Trump associates who would be willing to testify, esp if by doing so they themselves would escape legal.jeopardy.
New York prosecutors investigating former President Donald Trump’s business have advised Trump’s former bodyguard and current chief operating officer, Matthew Calamari, and his son that they should get their own lawyers, not use the Trump Organization’s attorneys, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Prosecutors are reportedly looking into whether the Calamaris have illegally avoided paying taxes on benefits provided by the Trump Organization, including housing and cars.
Remember that Al Capone ended up in jail for tax evasion, not any of the more egregious things he did. This is the one thing that pretty much has to generate a paper trail.
This apparently applies to Everyone as well. All of them are headed for insolvency or jail or both. While Trump and his spawn skates, and laughs at them.
Well I’m glad that there’s something specific happening regarding Trump Org.
We’ve had about 2 months of copy + paste the same clickbait headlines from the media organizations of essentially “Trump’s done for” with the actual content just being some speculation about what might happen eventually.
They say the wheels of justice grind slowly but exceedingly fine. The first half of that is certainly true. In our society, the second half is a bit more aspirational than I would like.
