I’m sorry to say that I don’t necessarily think that Law Enforcement via the New York Post is a better source of information.
Maybe someone could enlarge the image and count heads.
I think it would be trivially easy for an expert to estimate the covered area and knowing the persons/area value for such crowds, calculate the number of heads.
I see some fencing and stall tents. Those are probably fairly standard sized, so someone with some free time could track those down and calculate the square footage of the main blob. There are probably statistics on how many people you get per square foot in an average crowd.
Then count up the stragglers
Ours is 10 feet by 10 feet.
Assuming that the stage is 18’ wide and the crowd is about 4x that width, and you could pull back the two arms and the stragglers to fill a square, that’s about 72’x72’.
Looks like fairly dense crowds range between 2.5 (very dense) to 4.5 sqft (lightly dense).
At the higher density, I only get about 2000 people.
Hard to eyeball the comparison. Maybe when I get home I’ll bring it up on my computer and try to guesstimate the shrinkage to perspective.
At the moment, I’d go with the 3,500 number as being a good guess since it matches the free ticket count and the first estimate (which is pretty loose at this moment).
Huh. Almost as many as on Jan. 20 / '17. Ok maybe a bit less.
The Libertarian Convention just passed a motion for Donald Trump to “Go F-ck Himself”.
Happy Memorial Day!
I agree, even more so now that I’ve done the work outlined below.
Here’s the aerial photo everyone seems to be working from. The problem is that it is very low res; it appears to be shot off a monitor of a video feed. If anyone has a better source image, that would be helpful.
I found Crotona Park on Google Maps and am pretty sure I found the exact location, based on the triangular configuration of roadways in the upper left of the picture.
Then I found this online crowd counting tool and roughed out the area of densest packing, which I guessed to be 4 people per square meter. This gives a crowd size of about 3,000. People scattered outside the densest area might add a couple hundred at most, which gets us very close to the 3,500 tickets given out.
Here’s the tool I used, with my take on the crowd shape. Play with it yourself.
Obviously density will be higher toward the front and lower at the back, but I think an average of 4/m2 is about right. Here are some images that show what various densities look like.
In short, I still think my first guess of 2,000 was not too bad for a rough eyeball number.
Trump supporters are very dense.
Especially with their unnamed “law enforcement sources”, which could be one MAGA security guard.
I’m surprised they didn’t say “More people watched it online” like they did for the inauguration.
That’s great! But the weird part for me was to learn that Trump is going to be speaking at the Libertarian convention.
Trump is president - DOJ works for president - FBI works for DOJ - Trump is law enforcement.
It’s simple, really.
Trump is Dog Shit.
Dog shit draws flies.
Flies are annoying but can be easily dealt with.
It’s simple, really.
If they actually put that resolution up for a vote (and I doubt they did), he won’t be speaking there.
DOJ works for the Constitution and FBI works for the DOJ.
President also works for the Constitution, with a mandate to execute the laws passed by Congress.
No one works for the President, except to the extent they he appears to be guiding them to obey the Constitution and enforce the laws. Minus that, and they don’t.
Sorry, I should have used the sarcasm tag. I’ve heard people say that trump is the nation’s top cop using the above logic.
According to Trump, the president is not an officer of the United States. Doesn’t that mean that he doesn’t work for the constitution?
