Tours of Alcatraz are extremely popular. The annual income the National Park Service gets from Alcatraz tourism is a net gain and converting back to a prison, which would cost money to run would be a net loss…
Oh, geez, what am I saying? National park! Trump hates those and is doing his level best to ruin them. Alcatraz being a park is a reason for destroying it in its current form, in his mind, regardless of whether that makes any sense, fiscal or otherwise.
