How close is Minneapolis to the border or the lakeshore? CBP does not have jurisdiction greater than 100 miles from either.
About 150 miles, give or take, to Duluth.
But these seem to be ICE agents, not CBP, so the 100 mile ‘reasonable’ limit would not apply. It’s possible or likely the Wiki is incorrect about the particular agency involved.
But also, the agencies involved are rather incestuous and don’t act especially professional, so who knows?
And they’ve been re-assigning lots of agents from other departments to work ICE deportations, so they probably have authority derived from that assignment.

You’re welcome! It’s a common misconception; especially since they’re called “border patrol”, it makes sense that they wouldn’t be able to operate elsewhere, but that’s not quite the case.

So, she worked for ICE, then the DOJ, then volunteered to assist ICE to help out. One on hand, I have some sympathy for someone shoved forward by bosses who don’t want to show their faces. On the other hand, she seems to like working for ICE, so fuck her.

I gathered it was more, “Following the law when we toss so many people in jail we can’t keep up is hard.” The obvious answer is to slow down so that you make sure you do it correctly, but that’s not up to her.
