A Pit thread for Asahi

Can’t we skip that and move on to being Mean, like Mr Mustard?

When is the last time an established conservative here pitted ANY other poster though? The only one I recall in the last couple years who had an affinity for doing that was Clothahump.

Sounds tasty!

But you see, this board is overrun with lefty moonbat pinko libtards, and that includes the biased moderators who pounce upon the most anodyne remarks by conservative posters while snarling hate speech by liberals gets an “attaboy!” Why bother pitting one of their own when there’s a mob of hyperventilating Demonrats always at the ready to do it for them?

(…will be more or less then reason offered, I suspect.)

If I have to keep a ten-bob note up my nose, count me out.

Having a ten-bob note handy is nothing to sneeze at.

The thing is, asahi is convinced he’s another Cassandra. Even if he’s right, he manages to say everything in such an overbearing and alienating way that no one wants to deal with him.

Suntory (because, Bill Murray)

Sorry, didn’t hear you over my old show tunes. Listening to No, No, Nanette.

Also, I’ll go on record as both agreeing with Riemann that the post did not warrant a Warning and also endorsing this Pitting wholly.

That lady who sang to Ulysses? :dubious:

Fair effort, but let’s see you introduce object-oriented ontology and purchasing power parity casually into the conversation.

The lady whose prophecies were always correct but nobody ever believed.

The AAA was downgraded by the Better Business Bureau for its links to the KKK and dubious research it funded at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories and insider trading of Invesco Trust shares (symbol: QQQ), but, at the end of the day, we all just said ZZZ.

The permanent damage that Trump and the Republicans are doing to America and the world is huge. I do not blame asahi for becoming angry and hysterical about it. If thinking about the Trump Presidency doesn’t make you tremendously sad, then you’re not paying attention.

Technical question: Is “Negro” now considered a taboo or clearly pejorative word?

Well, damn, I never considered that they could all be serene Buddhist monks. Serene, racist, stupid, Buddhist monks.

Surely not taboo in the sense that anyone would feel the need to avoid it even in reported speech or parody.

It’s fine if used in historical context. But using it instead of “black” or “African-American” signals an attitude that harkens back to segregationism and all that comes with it.

But **asahi **referred to “The Negro”, as a noun, not an adjective, as if those people are all the same to him, with all the same issues and demands and who all have the same place in society (preferably separate if not subservient). That’s probably something far more to be alarmed about than the word itself.

“Negro” isn’t taboo, but it’s old-fashioned enough that anyone using it in a nonhistorical fashion or as part of an organizational name is gonna get a raised eyebrow. Same with “colored.”

However, in discussing racism with my 10-year-old daughter, she thought the “n-word” was “negro.” I had to clarify for her in an uncomfortable conversation.

Refresh my memory - when was the last time I mentioned asahi as someone who spoke for all Democrats? TIA.

Shodan
