A pitcherful of tasty adult beverages - suggestions needed

I’ll be taking some sangria to a block party tomorrow but thought it might be tun to try something else as well - ideas?

My basic sangria recipe is:
1 bottle sweet-ish red wine
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup brandy
And throw in fruit etc.

Or a light sangria_
1 bottle sweetish white wine
1/2 cup liqueur (orange, peach schnapps or whatever)
1/2 cup complementary juice e.g. peach nectar

Strangely, the light sangria is better when mixed with Sprite or ginger ale.

You can use a melon as a container. A pumpkin works well too but you might not find one this time of year.

Super easy stuff this lazy entertainer has made:

Iced tea with peach schnapps
Lemonade with bourbon (and a little vanilla extract)
Citrus sangria (red or white works) with fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit plus all the bits
Easy to make spritzers with 50/50 apple juice and hard cider

Pimm’s cup.

(Adjust amounts to taste)

[li]1 part Pimm’s[/li][li]1 slice cucumber[/li][li]1 slice of lemon[/li][li]2 slices cucumber[/li][li]1 strawberry, sliced[/li][li]Sprig mint (optional)[/li][li]Apple slice (optional)[/li][li]Ice cubes[/li][li]3 parts lemon (such as San Pellegrino) or lemon-lime soda. I use a mix of both.[/li][/ul]
Place all of the above in glass or pitcher. Stir a bit. Serve and enjoy.

Pimms itself is low-alcohol, so people won’t get smashed on just a couple of glasses. Some recipes add gin, which ups the alcohol level. If you add champagne it becomes a Pimms Royale.

Sorry, sangria is my most favorite adult beverage. If you’re already leading with that, I’ve got nothing.

Skip the cucumber, if I bring some borage leaves(a part of the traditional recipe, or so I’m lead to believe) can I have some?

I have always found the Singapore Sling to be a pitcher-friendly crowd pleaser. It’s tropical and Summertime, vibrantly colored and works a peach in pitchers because it’s a pain in the ass to make drink by drink. Plus, it’s got that retro hip classic cocktail drink geek cred that will let everyone on your block know that you are an understated force to be reckoned with.

“An understated force to be reckoned with.” I love that.

As far as practical experience making cocktails it pitchers, I got nothing, but Ina Garten does have lots of recipes like that.

Yummm on the Pimm’s and the Singapore sling. I’m going with the Pimm’s for now as it requires fewer ingredients we don’t keep around. The guy at the liquor store was wondering how it was served. I guess it isn’t a big seller.

For something more cocktail-y, consider whiskey sours.

IBA’s recipe
3 parts whiskey (I use bourbon)
2 parts lemon juice
1 part simple syrup
Egg white

Shake and pour over ice.
I take mine far less sweet but add a couple dashes of bitters.

No need to get real complicated either. Right now I’m sipping a very nice punch that is merely Simply™ Tropical juice blend, some maraschino cherry juice from the jar, and a fuckload of vodka.

I love summer vacation!

Fuzzy navels.

For the most part, only Anglophiles or those who’ve been to Wimbledon tend to know what it’s for.

Hope it’s a hit!

Sure! I’ll leave the cucumbers as an optional garnish in the glass for anyone who wants one.

Is that first cucumber supposed to be lime?

Bacardi REDRUM Punch sounds pretty good to me!
Ingredients:

¾ part BACARDÍ® Limón
¾ part BACARDÍ® Raspberry
¾ part BACARDÍ® Superior Rum
½ part Grenadine
2 parts Sweet & Sour
1 part Cranberry Juice

Method:

Pour all ingredients into a chilled punch bowl filled with ice blocks. Stir with a ladle and garnish with mint leaves, lemon wheels, and fresh raspberries. Serve into glasses with a lemon wedge and a fragrant sprig of mint.

This would probably work well with flavored vodkas, too.

If you’re going to do it proper English style, it should have nearly as much fruit as liquor in the punchbowl.

Pimm’s Cup is awesome on a hot summer day though. Probably the best single thing I learned about on my study-abroad.

You can always try catemba (kalimotxo). Red wine & coke. Maybe a little anise or lemon or other liquor added as well. Way better than you’d think.

Beergaritas are nice.

A 12 ounce can of limeade mixed with 12 ounces of water, tequila, and beer.

Why bother with the beer? You’re like 90% of the way to a margarita right there.

On a hot summer day they are more guzzleable than margaritas.
