Whatever. It just seems a strange way of doing business, is all. I guess I assumed that my subscription fee was actually needed for something or other, and the fact that any random gomer can offer to drive away paying SDMB subscriptions right on the SDMB seems to argue against that assumption.
When did I say it was meaningless? It’s not worth $500 cash, though. That money would come in real handy right now, and I’d be a moron to pass it up. Would you say no to $500 right now to give up posting on a message board? It’s entertainment but in no way essential to my life’s happiness. I could leave tomorrow for the right price. However, I’ll happily stay for free and pass the time here.

I was expecting the mods to intervene but I gotta say that, for all their faults, this place really is mod heaven. I’m glad they let the deal run it’s course, there was no reason to intervene and babysit anyone.

Maybe Liberal is a millionare and $500 is chump change to him. I agree he has every right to spend his money the way he wants to. But it’s an unnecessary, dare I say, foolish expenditure since there is a guaranteed and free way of dealing with an annoying poster…one that allows both parties to coexist in harmony. But Liberal chose the dickish route. Even if prr is a fully consenting adult, it still was a dickish thing to do.
If you were arguing with someone and that person pulled out their wallet and threw a few bills at you to shut you up, wouldn’t you feel that that person was trying to weasle out of a fight? That they were insulting you? Liberal presents himself as being an arbitrater of morality and Christian philosophy. He often comes across as this deep and spiritual individual, both complex and wise (often exposed as intentional obtuseness). Buying off your opponent, even if he’s an annoying jerkface, does not reasonate with the image that Liberal likes to present.
So no, I will not withold my judgment of him. Just like I won’t withold judgement from people who buy whores because they can’t get laid any other way.
