Dexter? True Blood?
Explain your choices, if you feel like it.
Conversely, if you didn’t like a show, say why.
Had to vote “You forgot one!”- Dexter.
Damn! Can polls be edited? I’ve never done one before.
Yes, but only by Mods. I added Dexter and True Blood for you.
The votes, alas, stand – so Silent Kal’s vote for Dexter is still under “You forgot one.”
Just to keep things manageable, rather than introduce a forgotten one, I’ll just cast votes for Rome and Generation Kill.
Six Feet Under
I also forgot John Adams.
How about this thread stay open for a few hours while we see what else I forgot, and then I’ll post a new one?
Silenus, what other one did I forget?
More I forgot:
Treme
Bored to Death
Hung
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Eastbound and Down
In Treatment
Big Love
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Queer as Folk
The Tudors
Sleeper Cell
United States of Tara
Californication
Huff
Pillars of the Earth
Spartacus: Blood and Sand
I kept my vote to the true favorites even though I have regularly watched almost as many others:
The Wire
Deadwood
Rome
The Sopranos
Flight of the Conchords
Band of Brothers
Dexter
ETA: I would add “In Treatment” from your supplementary list
I voted for The Sopranos, Flight of the Conchords, and True Blood, all of which I consider favorites.
It’s a bit early to consider Boardwalk Empire a favorite, but if they maintain the quality of the first few shows, it’ll definitely make the list.
I voted for The Sopranos and Deadwood because I saw most episodes. It’s an incredible list, great shows. I’m also a big fan of Californication.
I voted for: Deadwood, Rome, The Sopranos, Oz, and Band of Brothers, with the caveat that I’ve never seen The Wire, Dexter (beyond the first episode), or The Pacific before.
And I’ve only seen the first season of True Blood, and, yes, it does have a lot of nice boobies; but, no, it’s not worth watching more than once.
Pillars of the Earth? First and Ten?
And a big one: The Larry Sanders Show? And (possibly) bigger than that (though I would dispute such talk): Curb Your Enthusiasm?

Sorry. Didn’t see these initially. Drink does that to you, you know.
Still, I must reiterate: The Larry Sanders Show.
Also: The Kids in the Hall and Mr. Show with Bob and David.
And: Tenacious D.
From the shows I’ve seen, I would pick Sopranos, which I think is the best dramatic show I’ve ever seen on television (followed very closely by Deadwood). I’ve never seen The Wire, though, which I know a lot of people swear by.
I agree that a couple of comedies deserve real mention too, especialy The Larry Sanders Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
You might want to consider limiting this to shows currently sill in production, or by genre or something.
I don’t think anyone’s mentioned
Real Time with Bill Maher
Big Love
Ricky Gervais
Sex and the City
The Life and Times of Tim
Penn & Teller’s Bullshit
Secret Diary of a Call Girl
Of course, I don’t think many of these are in the running at all, but there’s always somebody who loves even the worst piece of crap.
If you mean Extras, then, yes, I concur. Though it’s not in the same league as his legendary The Office, which aired in the States on a non-premium cable channel (specifically, BBC America). Extras is very good (especially the episodes featuring Ian “Bunny” Bunton, and the Extra Special Christmas Special, which reliably produces tears to this day), but The Office is paradigm-shifting.
