I always do, and wonder if I’m the only one- I put all the refuse in one location, all the dirty towels piled together, pick large things off the carpet, wipe down the bathroom and sink, etc.
Yah. I make sure I don’t have my stuff lying about all over. You shouldn’t leave the place a wreak. I don’t tidy it all up though.
I throw the trash in the garbage and my clothes in the corner… that pretty much takes care of everything. I try to leave some cash if I’ve been especially messy.
Yes, I always pick up the room. I also leave a good bit of money in a card, if the service has been good, on the last day.
No, but even though I am not a tidy man in my regular life, I am not that messy when I’m away. Mostly I just sleep in my room and spend the rest of my time at the bar.
Yes, absolutely. I can’t stand to leave a hotel room messy, and I am not an organized person in my own home.
I will stack all the dirty towels in one place, arrange the remote/magazines/whatever the same way I found them when I checked in, and make sure all trash is actually in a trash can. I don’t know why I’m so anal about it, and my wife thinks I’m a little weird, but it’s important to me.
I wish I had that same attitude at home, honestly.
I have never stayed at a hotel longer than 4 or 5 days consecutively, so I always opt out of maid service until we’re checking out. It’s simple to hand the towels out to someone working in the hall and grab more, and we never really need more than that for just a few days.
So on a day to day basis, I feel free to be as messy or not as I like, since no one else is going to see it. On that last day, however, I clean up fairly well. Part of that is trying to ensure nothing of ours gets left behind, though, which is hard to see if there’s clutter all about.
I once had an unexpected monthly visitor that left the bed looking like Carrie’s prom dress and was so mortified that I immediately yanked all the bedding and was on my hands and knees scrubbing it out by hand in the tub. With tiny bottles of hand soap and shampoo. Why I didn’t realize this must be a not uncommon problem, and one they’re better equipped to deal with what with laundry facilities and such, I can’t say. I reacted the same way I would if I were staying in someone’s home and tried my damndest to minimize the damage. Still left the maid a generous apologetic tip since she was going to have to deal with the clean but sodden mess of sheets, too.
Yeah. All used towels get tossed into one small pile in the bathroom, bedding gets straightened out a little, trash gets put into the trash can, and I check the room over for exposed valuables. It’s a combination of desires to not look like a slob, to not risk anything being stolen, and to make their jobs a little easier. I leave a couple bucks tip, too.
My grandmother was on a hotel cleaning crew, so it’s hard for me to not tidy up a little.
Not only do I tidy up my hotel room before checkout, I also pre-bus my table at a restaurant. I stack my plates, and put all the silverware on the stack, and wipe up any spills. You don’t have to tell me I’m weird. I already know.
That may be, but you’re not alone, either.
Well, I’ll be the one - I don’t. I mean, I throw all my clothes into the suitcase-pile, but I don’t go around making the bed or doing anything special to the towels or putting my toothbrush away.
I don’t make the bed, but I do clean up all trash and place things neatly away, and I feel completely stupid while I’m doing it.
Oh, and I always put the bible in the safe. It just seems like the right thing to do.
I like to tidy a bit, I feel too unorganized when it’s messy. Making the bed is the best part, because then I have a nice flat work surface to organize the things I am going to need for the day.
I tidy but I don’t clean.
Normally when I’m staying at a hotel it’s for work and I’m generally working in the afternoon till late so I sometimes go for several days with a “do not disturb” sign on my door so I can sleep in.
Dude, the Gideons want you to steal it.
I certainly don’t clean for the maid. I’m not a slob in real life so I guess I just leave the room what would be “normal” for me and let the maid do her thing. Some of you sound like my mother who would clean the house before the cleaning service got there…huh?
Are you afraid the little bugger might get away?
I put the body in the dumpster and wash all the blood down the drain.
Did your mother ‘clean’ for the maid, or did she tidy? Generally speaking, maids don’t organize, they clean–dust, vaccuum, wash, polish, etc. If you don’t tidy before they arrive, they’re not going to be able to do what they do.
In hotel rooms, I try to make sure I haven’t left anything on the bed, that my dirty underwear is out of sight, and that anything important is put away, other than that, I don’t worry about it too much. But then, I don’t really mess a hotel room up that much, either.
I always tidy up the hotel/motel room when I’m checking out. It’s the result of all that early childhood training.
