My gay friends are about equally divided as to which ones have and haven’t had sex with members of the opposite sex. Most straight male friends have never had sex with a man but straight females in my experience seem to experiment more with their own gender.
Which of the lists on the anonymous poll fits you the best?
NOTE: For the purposes of this poll, “having sex” is defined something that you did willingly and to the point of climax. Gay or straight or Bi is however you choose to identify yourself.
I don’t know who all the straight women who have had sex with other women are. I spent four years living in an all girls dorm, and the only girls who slept with other girls were lesbians or really and truly bi (as in they actually dated women, not experimented “just once”). I’ve always suspected that the number of women who have actually experimented with other girls is a much smaller number than the number of women who claim to have experimented with other girls.
I know, I hadn’t even heard about that “college lesbian” thing until quite recently (and it was in the boards, not even when I was in grad school in the US), but the way some people trot it about, it sounds as if they’re convinced that I was the only girl in my university who didn’t get it on with the whole female half of her graduating class - or worse: that I actually did, and I lie about it. And as for the “let me not and tell everybody I did” part, maybe that’s got to do with cultural values and American (or Anglo) women value “adventurous” more than Spanish ones do.
I had to vote “it’s complicated” because the OP specified “men” and that, to me, implies an adult status; had he specified “male” rather than “men” he might have elicited more honest answers. Or maybe I’m picking nits because I am reluctant to reveal the truth. As a “boy” I did play some sex games with other “boys.” Such games included mutual masturbation but didn’t include oral sex or rectal intercourse; I don’t think we even knew such things existed at the age I’m including as “boys.” IIRC, and I think I do, my participation in those games ended right around the age of twelve or thirteen but to be completely honest, that was due to my fear of death and hell fire as promulgated by the hard shell Southern Baptist environment in which I was raised. I don’t think I’ve ever publicly admitted this before, probably because I still feel a little guilty about it. So, Sampiro has elicited a moment of truth from me, assuming my peccadilloes count as “having sex.”
I’m one of those women who is ‘straight’ but has had sex with other women. I’m probably older than those who are wondering why the claims, but little evidence from their own cohort.
The notion of experimenting in college is time worn, yet being openly interested in same sex frolics is currently vogue. It’s actually interesting to me that several young women are throwing their hat into one ring or another without sampling everything and then deciding. I don’t mean to infer that one shouldn’t decide and declare early on - if one KNOWS their preference and has from a young age.
So, I consider myself straight because I’m much more comfortable with men, but my fantasies are predominantly about women. As with many fantasies, the real sex with women wasn’t the same. As noted above I’m likely older than many here (54) and it was considered really colouring outside the lines to experiment same-sex in my ‘community’.
For the record, I’ve had sex with five women - three times there was a man involved in the games - does that skew the results?
Straight female, 39, with zero sexual interest in other women. Well, I can appreciate a nice set of tits, but I don’t want to touch 'em or anything.
I spent most of my 20s in the gay community (with a lesbian best friend who wasn’t comfortable in straight bars), so I’ve had plenty of time for self-reflection and soul searching. It’s just not for me. I’ve never even wanted to experiment with another girl.
