I used to do this much more, especially at night. There were nights I’d drive as far as Ohio or West Virginia (neighboring states) and often by some circuitous backroad routes. It was, in retrospect, not always a very safe thing to do.
These days, the price of gas, the realities of peak oil and global warming and arthritis limit my recreational driving, though I do occasionally take the “long way home” or the more scenic route on my regular journeys.
