I had my dream job, for about a year . . . I wrote and updated biographical entries on the Cinemania CD-Rom. Actually looked forward to coming to work each day! Every day, I would do three entries: one modern performer (the “Sundance Babies,” we called 'em), one old-timer, and one crew member (director, cinematographer, etc.). Then Microsoft pulled the funding, and we all got fired.
Now I write freelance for the Encyclopedia Americana, which is fun, but it’s only an occasional freelance assignment. I just got assigned The Marx Bros., Laurel & Hardy, Sophie Tucker and Busby Berkeley. Dunno if it qualifies as a “job,” though.
For an actual job that matches my skills (computer geek), I’m looking for the job that let’s me live where I want, telecommute when I want, and pays me an obscene amount of money.
If skills aren’t an issue, I’d be a musician or a singer.
I would be a mathematician doing some crazy highly abstract stuff. What’s holding me back is also my brain. I’m okay at math for a physics student, but nowhere near the level I would have to be. It’s a tragedy of the ages I tells ya.
I’d like to work in the music industry. In just about any capacity. I just think it would be really interesting. Either that, or a graphic artist. My lack of education is holding me back. My lack of funds is holding me back from an education.
If money weren’t an issue, you could simply throw me in a library and ask me to do just about anything. All those books, all that peace and quiet…::sigh::
Knowing my luck I’d get locked in there, the world would end, and then I’d break my damn glasses.
I too wanted to be a Marine Biologist. All the time I was growing up I dreamed of working in coral reefs and discovering new species of aquatic animals. I guess having a family early squashed that dream and now I feel its kind of late in life to make such a big career change. Plus no money for that kind of education.
Too freaky. Two people have chimed in with “marine biologist”. When I was younger, I saw a show on Discovery channel about these guys that would capture aquatic animals for zoos all over the world. I sat there watching, thinking how cool would it be to tell people you catch sharks for a living. The other thing I thought was, "how the hell do you get that job? Well, obviously marine biology would get your foot in the door. Since I never really persued it, I’d have to say that catching sharks for a living would definitely be a dream job of mine.
recap:
“So, MachV, what do you do?”
“Well, I capture live sharks for a living. How about you?”
I would want to ranch and farm. Don’t know much about either but I have always wanted to drive a tractor, turn dirt over, and watch stuff grow. I would wear overalls and ride a horse. I would figure a way to make money without killing any of my livestock. On summer afternoons I would head to the swimming hole then finish up by watching the sun set from my front porch swing. I would drive a 75 Chevy truck to town once a week to buy seed or corn or whatever they buy. I would buy my stuff from the General Store that sold everything from boots to battrees.
Formula One world champion driver. I would have needed to start on this carreer 25 years ago, and back then, I wasn’t calling the shots. My old man had inflexable ideas about what was “realistic employment options”. As a result, my artistic vision and athletic prowess withered and now hangs useles like an appendix. I’m now just an old, fat wanna-be (caveman rapist with creditcard debt and white cars :D) who relives past glorys in my mind.
hey, jacksen9! click on the web link below to learn how to attain your dream! maybe we can trade lives, or something, but i DO NOT wear overalls. (i have a nice pair of Dickie COVERALLS for working on the cars with Italian marque patchs, but thats different!)
Um. Museum curator in charge of antique clothes, or owner of a small book+jewelry+vintage clothing store, selling some of my own designs in clothes and jewelry. That sounds great. Oh, and someone else to manage the finances.
