Somedays hand somedays blow.
Definately a (video) game designer. Since that’s not quite out of the question enough to classify as a dream job, I’d like to work with Miyamoto one time, too.
As for what’s stopping me… well, first I have to get my CS degree, then get some experience programming (funny how CS doesn’t really provide that), then write some of my own games to show that I have a clue. The plan is just getting underway, but it seems to be running smoothly so far.

-
Be in a band.
-
Professional skateboarder (my joints are too bad for it)
-
Video/PC game maker. Such as Blizzard or Bungie.
Yea… stopping me…
-
I’m not that great at guitar. I need a drummer.
-
Bad joints, and I’m not that stupid to throw myself off a building just for 5 seconds of fun; whereas I can be w/o a broken leg and just skate for fun.
-
Not much… money mainly. I could visit Digipen up near Tacoma. The Bungie studio is in Washington, so that isn’t a complete far out dream job…
Lucky enough to be doing my dream job right now…flying airplanes!
But someday I would like to be a bar owner in the Carribbean (much more research is required, of course.) The bar would sponsor dive trips, and I’d fly customers to the dive sites in my Grumman Goose, dive with them and fly them back.
Someday…
Travel writer. I’m getting there - I currently work as a subeditor on a Sunday newspaper travel supplement… which is more frustrating, as I have to do the hard work while the writers swan off around the world.
But I’m not bitter.
Well there ya go - I can be your game tester. As long as this is a dream, I’d rather not do any actual work. I’ll just play.
I’d buy, refurbish, and then sell for huge profit old classic sailboats, 30 feet and over.
Some problems:
Not much profit in it.
I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Lotsa lakes, nearest big water is Superior, a couple hours to the north.
My garage is too small, I have no place to work on them.
All the good boats are on the coasts, and shipping them costs too much.
Initial investment would be pretty high.
I have a son who deserves all my free time.
Maybe in ten years or so.
A children’s/young adult book editor.
A children’s librarian.
The person who writes the copy for museum displays (like at the Smithsonian museums).
Someone who researches and writes scholarly work about children’s literature or myths/fairy tales.
In no particular order…
Columnist/handicapper for the Daily Racing Form. Lacking that, being the horse racing writer for a daily newspaper’s sports department would suit me just fine. I’ve been a racing fan for years, I can usually handicap races pretty well, and the idea of getting paid to go to the track and report on the action there would indeed be one of my dream jobs.
On-air radio personality. I was a radio DJ many years ago, and quite enjoyed it, but another career presented itself, and I followed that path. It may be a “grass is always greener” kind of thing, but the older I get, the more I wish I’d stayed in radio.
Voice actor. I seem to be able to do a variety of voices, some silly, others serious, but all different. It entertains my friends, most of whom are wondering why I’m not supplying voices to cartoons and such. I’m beginnnig to wonder that myself–it sounds like it would be a lot of fun.
What is your all-time dream job?
Director of a contemporary art center in an urban setting. Working personally with contemporary artists and increasing their involvement with a wide audience. Providing schoolkids with some of their first art experiences in an engaging, investigative environment.
What (if anything) is stopping you from going for it?
I graduate with my master’s in Museum Studies in May 2004. I’m on my way!
-
Hugh Hefner’s personal assistant.
-
Britney Spears’ lingerie taylor.
-
Mick Jagger’s personal assistant.
-
Faceless grunt working in a high rise.
(Note: 4 included to cleanse the palate.)
cameraman for the adult entertainment industry
I am in my dream job now. I work 4 days a week as a software engineer in a small group that has free rein on what tools we use and also on how we implemnt our projects. I love to go to work and am alsways suprised how fast time seems to fly.
My future dream job is to own/operate a brew pub. I like to bre beeer and cook cajun and creole style foods. I think the combination of food and beer would be a great pub.
Whats holding me back?
I have to get the kids through school then I am going for it.
Movie critic. I already actually do the job for a small webzine, but my dream job would be to actually get paid for it.
-
A book store owner. Ahh…I LOVE books! Unfortunately there aren’t many small bookstores around any more.
Plus, no money anyway.
-
Librarian. Next best thing to book store owner. The exciting part of that is I FINALLY got a call yesterday from the school to inform me I was accepted to their library science program! Now I just have to come up with the $500/class. Yeah!!!
Working for the Jim Henson Company, I don’t really care what they have me do, just as long as it is creative.
Owner and CEO, Seattle Mariners. I’d like to see if I’m really as much smarter than the real people holding this job as I think I am.
Owner of a youth hostel. Meeting all sorts of backpackers from around the world would be cool. Yeah it’s hard work but it’s what my boy and I want to do someday. The whole capital part is holding us back.
That or teaching English in some foreign country. I already did it for a year, in France, and it was the best year of my life. I would love to do something like that again.
