FTR, most of my GD threads boil down to “debate this for me” as I don’t have a well fixed opinion on the topics I propose. I just put a little more heart to it and make a point of showing what is it that I know and what is it that is bugging me.
You don’t have to be a staunch pro- or anti- something to be in GD.
So perhaps he is Bi-polar? His permanent removal from the board I think will be overall a downer. I mean hell there are days were I actually miss Carol Stream, usually that’s after reading one of Ivn’s post in the pit. He seemed to just be a fly on the wall prior to Carol’s banning. I think the distinct personalities bring flavor to the SDMB. I’ll concede rules are rules and you Moderators have to do your job. I just don’t want to see the pre-emptive goodbye thread immediately turn in to the out the door thread which is the way it seemed to be headed.

If so, the only one to blame for that is the OP. He starts a thread that says, basically, I’ve been told I’ll be banned with my next warning, and for some reason I am either incapable or unwilling to avoid doing something that will earn another warning, so, um, bye. And then he goes on to bitch about the unfairness of it all ad nauseum. Various methods of avoiding bannination have been suggested to him. Ball’s in his court. I don’t particularly want to see him (Thanks magellan) banned, but if he’s bound and determined to suicide by mod, that’s his choice.
If a friend of yours threatened to jump off a building, would you try to talk him down, or would you berate the police and fire department for not setting up airbags and nets around the entire building?
I don’t think it is. But some of the stuff is very minor. I’ve received Warnings that I deserved that were delivered after what was clearly an infraction. I’ve also received some that fall into the you-GOTTA-be-kidding-me category. I don’t know the seriousness of his other infractions.
I will add this, that if mswas is given a tenth of the “extra consideration” Der Trihs" is, he’ll be around for forever.
I can’t believe I am actually chiming in, (playing right into mswas’ bullshit game) but mswas is an attention-whoring drama queen, and won’t be happy until he can actually get himself banned, and then come back here in a couple of months with a sock account and start up an olde-fashoned shitstir again, as is his wont.
Der Trihs is given no extra consideration. If/When the rules are changed so that everyone who posts in the manner that Der Trihs posts are in violation of them, then Der Trihs will have to change or be banned. Until I begin to see every other post that resembles Der Trihs’s posts Reported, I see no reason to single him out for “extra consideration” just because he posts more of that nonsense (not different nonsense) than other posters.
I’ll have to point out that mswas was not warned for starting the thread. He was warned for insulting someone in Great Debates. Are you saying that Der Trihs is doing this ten times more often than mswas? I don’t keep track of who does what, but this does not seem accurate to me.

Yes, mswas was Warned for insulting someone, a mod. I stated that plainly in my original post. Sorry if there was subsequent confusion. DT doesn’t really start threads, at least not in GD. He does constantly spew ignorant content-free hatred. It is my opinion that he should have been banned a hundred times over. even if for breaking the Don’t Be A Jerk rule.
I’m not berating Marley or the other moderators at all. There is no doubt that mswas has broken the rules. I perceived a banning to be almost immediately forth coming after reading the start of this thread, and that may still be the outcome. I am just offering my opinion of the situation and that mswas even with the infractions does contribute positively to the SDMB.
Yes, and as long as you keep him around you (pl) are allowing a big stain to mar the brand of SDMB. Not to mention give credence to any accusation of this board’s administration as being unbiased.

I realize you have a crusade going to rid GD of those you deem unworthy, but this is not the venue for it.
