As long as you pick on Der Trihs and ignore the other posters who post in similar fashions, you are displaying your biases and demonstrating that you only wish to attack him, not his actions.
And given how fucking obnoxious the “Here’s an article that I read but am too lazy to write an OP about. Debate!” crap is, I’m all in favor of handing out warnings for that. Hell-I’m in favor of the mods giving out the home address of people who do “Article Quote: Discuss” OPs so Dopers in their area can go to their homes and beat them with sacks filled with doorknobs.*

If I get banned from the board, I’ll be sad for about 15 minutes. Really, honestly. There are tons of other message boards on the internet. I know how to build one myself. It really doesn’t matter that much to me. I’m not saying I WANT to leave, but it’s not that big of a deal to me if I do. Sure, I go up and down, but believe me, getting permanently banned from the Straight Dope just won’t matter that much to me.

We have crossed paths many times. Often I have thought you to be the supertard (and you probably thought the same of me). Your arguments have often irritated the hell out of me. Sometimes, though, we have even agreed on occasion and I think you might have even had my back a time or two. So, at the very least, you don’t carry a grudge (or have one shitty memory ).

Er, no. It’s a clear rule violation. The rule is sound. It’s not that hard to follow. Furthermore, the mods are volunteers: showing a little deference seems to me like common courtesy - though I hasten to add that this aspect is rarely pushed here.
Content-free bile in GD doesn’t violate any rule, except if you want to say that it violates the DBaJ rule. Which you do, but I’m not convinced.
And to be fair, Der occasionally posts content, though that’s not typical.
I’m not a big fan of magellan, but I suppose we could debate a “Content-free bile” guideline for the mods. Be aware though, that even rough guidelines can be surprisingly difficult to draw up and enforce. We could also debate whether “Content-free bile” constitutes Best Practices for posters. As I’ve said elsewhere, I don’t think Best Rhetorical Practices receives enough attention here, relatively speaking.
I’ll concede that it’s plausible that Der is a bit of a one man army: he might have single-handedly shifted the tone (for the worse) in GD. I’ve wondered about that, but I’ve also noted that his thoughts on theology and US warfare have reflected certain currents in American life.
It is not a critical distinction. Your only beef with the staff is that we do not carry out your wishes regarding Der Trihs while you display no desire for the staff to take action against other posters engaged in the same behavior. Since you make no complaint abot the staff failing to take action against other posters with the same characterisitics, (especially those with opposing philosophical perspectives), it is clear that the bias resides in you.
