A Public "Thank You" To TriPolar!

Trip,

What a great surprise I got when I went to my mailbox just now, thank you, thank you, thank you!

He sent me 2 books about my hometown, Rothenburg ob der Tauber (in Bavaria) one is entitled Rothenburg ob der Tauber: Views from the old days and the other is a smaller book with color pictures of all there is to see there, along with maps of the town.

I love my hometown, and had neither of these books. I was 11 when we left Germany, so this will be great historical reading both for me and our guests.

Thanks for thinking of me, my friend!

I visited Rothenburg about ten years ago. Very neat place–I recommend it to anyone i know who is going to visit Germany.

Hey Quasi–I had forgotten that you were from Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In my college days, I spent an absolutely delightful 2 months at the Goethe Institut in Prien am Chiemsee before doing my year abroad at the University of Vienna, and during my Christmas vacation spent almost a month backpacking around Germany. I spent a few days in Rothenburg, which is amazing–it was billed as the most intact medieval city in Germany, with the old walls and fortifications still in perfect condition, and the old medieval city still preserved meticulously. The place is an absolute marvel. And I still remember the church with the amazing Riemenschneider carvings.

Spent a few days there a couple of years ago; lovely town.

Wow, google-imaged it and it’s a stunning place!

Several years ago I took a couple of friends with me and served as a kind of tour guide and they loved it as well. It is located on “The Romantic Road” and there are many small villages, the Bavarian Alps and of course Neuschwanstein castle to see in Füssen.

Trip’s books were also very welcome because we weren’t able to make the trip home last year and are not sure about this year, but I do call once a week (4 cents a minute) and am working with cousins and uncles to write a history of our family which I’d like to turn into a screenplay.

Thanks for the notes, everyone.

PS: Just wanted to mention that Riemenschneider’s wood carving named “Altar of the Blood” will take your breath away.
