Now I have another question. Talking to the salesman at the Hyundai dealership, he said the price they have on the vehicle is basically their cost and they can’t move on it at all (well maybe $100-$200). It sounds a little fishy to me, but Saturn dealers are the same way.
Has anybody bought a Hyundai (from a Canadian dealer) in the last few months? If so did they move on the price at all?
I just bought one last month, although it was from a FL dealer. The base price is pretty much stuck there, they are inexpensive to begin with so there’s not much wiggle room. Do you have a trade in? That’s where you can make up the most. I told them what my budget would be and in order for them to get me in the car, they had to take WAY over Kelly Blue Book on my previous vehicle (about $3000 over). Just remeber that if you can’t get what you want, and what you want is reasonable, just leave. Remember that in a salesman’s eyes, “ALMOST” selling a car doens’t cut it. If they can sell you one a bit cheaper, that’s still better than nothing.
Just as an aside, Saturn dealerships all sell their calls at the same price. It’s just their company policy. The same goes for Scion, I believe, as well as some others.
Which Tuscon are you going to buy? 4WD or 2WD? What engine? My advice is to go for the 2.7 liters engine if you can afford it. The 2.0l engine is too small for a car that weighs almost 1600kgr.
I have the 2002 Santa Fe 4WD 2.7 with automatic transmission.
Yea we are looking at both the Tucson GLS and Santa Fe GLS. I like the size of the Santa Fe better, but the Tucson is lighter (so it gets slightly better gas milage) and has some cooler features (air bag sensor, heated windsheild by the wipers, grocery bag hooks, etc.).
We want 4 wheel or All Wheel Drive, leather seats and a sun roof. So the GLS models are the ones for us.
You can also check the new Kia Sportage. It is basically the same as the Tuscon (Hyundai owns Kia) and it is slightly cheaper. I also think the Sportage has some features that are not available for the Hyundai Tuscon
Dog, this may just be complete car dealer BS, but when I bought my Hyundai Santa Fe two years ago and was asking the salesman how Hyundai compares to Kia, his response was that Kia uses parts that don’t pass QC at Hyundai.
To answer the OP, I couldn’t get the dealer to budge much either, but I chalk that up to the fact that Santa Fes were pretty much flying out of the dealership at the time. I’m sure if I would have walked, someone else would have come in the next day and snapped it right up for what they were asking.
