my friends car was parked in the street this weekend and some unidentified person came by and broke his windshield. since it was parked in front of his house, would the replacement of the windshield be covered by homeowners insurance ? if not what insurance would cover it?
Homerners insurance generally excludes damage to any motor vehicle licensed/intended for road use. So no, homowner’s insurance will not cover this damage.
This damage would be couvered, subject to a dedctible, under the car’s insurance policy if it includes “COMPREHENSIVE” coverage.
It may actually have no deductible on glass replacement. He’ll need to check his policy.
If anything had been stolen out of the car, THAT would be covered under the homeowners/renters insurance of the car owner, not of the property the car was on.
Right. Except the homeowner’s policy normally excludes CDs & Tapes if they appear to have been in the car for use IN the car (as opposed to being in the car for transportation to another location.) Also the Auto policy will exclude car parts that are not attached to the car (that bag of engine rebuild parts that you just got at Pep Boys, or the car stereo that was just replaced by the one currently in the dash–fuhgeddabout 'em), and the homeowner’s policy will normally exclude auto parts in general…for clarification, attack your agent with “what ifs.” They LOVE that!
