A question about "House"

I just started watching House this season, and something has me scratching my head. Why why WHY does Wilson put up with House? Wilson bails him out, lies to the police for him, and still he treats Wilson like dirt. The others put up with him because they have to. But Wilson associates with him by choice. Why?

Regarding tonight’s episode, I completely expected House’s story about the janitor in the Japanese hospital to be revealed as a load of crap, a ploy to get the coma guy to talk, and was surprised when it wasn’t. Anyone else?

Wilson would probably feel bad about leaving House without a friend in the world.

Their personal relationship is modelled on Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Watson was tolerant of Holmes misanthropic little peccadilloes, so Wilson is tolerant of House’s misanthropic little peccadilloes.

Well, House didn’t rat Wilson out for that little sleeping-with-the-terminal-patient thing, and let him sleep on his couch when he broke up with his wife. The relationship isn’t always as one-sided as it is now.

It’s love.

Is this just your personal theory or has someone associated with the show stated that? I can see the point, I’m just curious if it’s been confirmed.

Well, I suspected that the creator of the show was a big Holmes fan, and felt sure when I saw that House lives at 221-B. (Come to think of it, Hugh Laurie could definitely play Holmes.)

Can he do a British accent?

Eh, it’s passable, but he can probably get a voice coach or something- Renee Zellweiger could probably give him some tips.

Hmm… and a similarity in names. House/Holmes, Wilson/Watson.

You seem to be on to something.

It was mentioned by Laurie that House/Holmes similarity was deliberate, so the Wilson/Watson similarity would also seem to fit in.

Not to mention a substance addiction!

If parallels to Moriarty, the Baker Street Irregulars, etc. show up, well, I don’t think I want to know!

Hugh Laurie is actually a British actor who does an American accent for House .

I’m thinking our cop friend is Moriarty. He has a keen analytical intellect and shares many of House’s traits. He is the player on the other side. Now if the two end up falling over a waterfall in a life and death struggle (The Fountain in the hospital?) well…

It is confirmed that House is based on Sherlock Holmes.

:smack: Of course!

No shit, Gregory.

AKA Whoosh.

Bingo!

Although I do think House is long overdue for a slapdown from Wilson by now.

Elementary!

Have we ever seen any other friends of Wilson?

When he needed some place to stay, he went to House.
