A question about spiders

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of excessive spiders? We seem to have an absolute abundance of them this year, and I’ve never heard of a spider trap.
(BTW Please don’t give me the old myth about spiders are good for controlling other insects, because they’re not. At least, THESE spiders aren’t. Besides, my daughter and I are terrified of them.)

Thanx

Chris W.

Your post reminded me of the time I peered under my grandma’s living room sofa and found it to be doubling as a daddy longlegs cemetery. ::shudder::

Anyway, what kinds of spiders are these? If they’re inside your home and relatively small, a vacuum works just fine. (You can empty out the bag afterwards if it’ll make you feel better.)

If they’re large and outside in your yard, I recommend a flamethrower. I mean, er, a broom.

Look out for egg sacs. You’ll have to get rid of them, too, if you want to prevent future outbreaks.

Your fear of the spiders will be your biggest hindrance.

I happen to like spiders and will put up with a few in the house but they can get out of hand. It is also a common complaint from my tenants.

I’ve had the best luck with foggers, there are many on the market and you must be careful to follow the instructions ie cover all dishes, remove plants and fish and pets etc. make certain to air out the house before you reoccupy.

I’ve heard that if you throw a few mothballs in the vacuum, then vacuum the spiders up, the mothballs will kill them, and they won’t just crawl out of the vacuum and go about their business.

I offer no warrantee on the usefulness of this advice, however.
