I hate these little bastards…I think they are the one thing that I may actually be afraid of. I have no apparent fear of them, but I kill every one I see the second I see it.
As most of you know I recently inherited my grandparents place. It was built in 1985 so it’s had time to develop a few homes for insects. Predominantly arachnids…
The house is about 3600 square feet and has an attic that is used for storage only. I only use about half of the house and the rest just sits dormant with no real activity. It seems like the problem is much much worse in these “quiet” areas of the house.
How do you kill these things? I haven’t actually tried anything yet, but I’ve started noticiting the spider activity increasing, i.e.- more webs, more dead insects on the wood and tile parts of the floors, and even to the point that I see small spiders running around occasionally.
This is driving me nuts, and I want the little bastards out.
I recognize a few kinds…one is a wolf spider(common), and the rest look like common garden spiders. I have noticed outside the house both brown recluse and black widow spiders. I am guessing that if they are outside, it is highly likely they are inside too and that concerns me for obvious reasons…I like to go to bed anticipatiing waking up in the morning ya know!
So any ideas? I want my home back…and I want it back now!
Hire a professional exterminator and have them come back on a regular basis. You certainly won’t accomplish anything squishing them one by one. An exterminator will get them and their eggs.
I have found that those room “bombs” work really good. You simply get them off in the middle of a room and the fog gets into all of the nooks and crannies…especially good for spiders…
I agree with Shayna. I had to have an exterminator come twice a year and it worked. He sprayed the inside of my house and went around the outside of my house and did the windows and everything. No more spiders. I haven’t had it done this year but that’s because I’m moving at the end of this month… let the new owner deal with it.
This was discussed in an earlier thread “how to kill spiders” originated by David B in March.

I noticed that the fly spray that we use around here on the farm kills spiders. It is also good in milkrooms and chicken houses.
The brand name is “Country Vet” We probably got it at the local farm store.
I think that the ones that are safe for milkrooms and chicken houses are safer than the ordinary kind.
The instructions say to spray directly on them. Also spray hiding places.
Do you live there alone? If so maybe a bug bomb would be best.
I noticed that spiders are a pretty popular subject considering how many threads were called up in my mini search.Maybe some of them have some other ideas that you could use.
