A Question about Teen Wolf

I’ve wondered this since I was a kid.

In the movie, Michael J. Fox says he has many problems aside from being a werewolf. He says, “I got a bad outside hookshot, Im allergic to eggs, I got a 6 dollar haircut, I mean I have problems. I dont need this one.”

When he lists “six dollar haircut”, what does he mean? Is that supposed to be cheap or expensive? I’d think it’d be about right when the movie came out.

Anyone like to shed light on this?

In the mid-80s, a $6 haircut would be, for a middle-class white boy, cheap. That was the dawning age of places like Hair Cuttery, Great Expectations, etc., with their $20 styles.
