On the contrary, most would say they’ve a personal encounter with Him, and that’s all the evidence they need to believe the same thing most people have always believed. Why do you ignore their lived experience?
Why should we pay attention to it? Why should we pretend someone is entitled to make themselves a public menace because they think they’re covered in Jesus Blood? Why should we force women to bear children against their will because someone who will not have any role in raising the child thinks abortion makes the creator of the universe’s son cry? Why should bigots be granted special privileges because they have an opinion about the private lives of strangers?
Would you think a politician is fit to govern if they were to espouse all the views of the religious right but attributed them to the teachings of the dust bunnies under their bed?
And also, why should we let people get away with things people want to do because they say God says so.

If it is evidence they can share with me, it is evidence.
If it a personal encounter that they cannot demonstrate to me, then it is simply their opinion.
It’s fine if you want to believe based on your personal experiences. It is not fine if you wish to impose your religion and its rules on others.
I believe that they believe it. Just like most Trump supporters believe what they want to believe. Neither belief system is based on demonstrable evidence.

That’s really the rationale there. No matter what Trump says or does, in the Trump supporter’s mind, it is self-evident that any Democrat candidate “would have been worse”.

What’s even worse is the people I know who are “on the left” and not fans of him, but say that he is “No worse than Obama” and will go on to say that he is better than Hillary. We are having an intellectual failure and it has to do with social media and facebook.
