A Question Regarding Candomble-Posession

I was watching the classic Brazilian movie “Black Orpheus”-and the scene that interested me was when Eurydice dies, and the grief-stricken Orpheus visits the Candomble service-and the old woman is posessed by the spirit of Eurydice. She tells him that he will never see him again, unless he himself dies.
Now, I know that Candomble (the African-based Brazilian religion) posits that a human can become posessed by a spirit-but does this extend to the spirits of dead humans?
Has anyone ever attended a Candomble ceremony? Do these posessed people have anything deep to say? Or is it mostly gibberish?
By the way, the newest remastering of the movie is very goo-the sound track is much better.
