A respected political journal that would accept articles...

…from a man off the street.

I hold no credentials in the military, in the government, nor politics. I’m not a lawyer nor am I a doctor. I am merely a guy who has argued on the internet with people about political issues for over a decade. My politics, so far as I am aware, are neither left nor right, not Communist, not Libertarian, nor (I don’t believe) crazy nor outlandish. I have read that a problem with centrists in the political world is that that are just a grab bag of things from either party and don’t add anything new to the mix. I think that, on a few subjects, I can add something to the mix if I just had a place where I could post a half dozen articles.

My hope is that someone on this forum is a member of some political newsletter or other, is aware of my writings, and would be willing to at least give a genuine look, if I was to write something for their readers? I am both fine with being rejected if my work is not thought-provoking and with working with the editors to refine and improve my work in stages.

Failing that, if anyone is aware of a newsletter, magazine, or blog that would be likely to read a letter from some random guy off the internet and that has a decent readership within political circles, I would appreciate knowing which ones to try contacting and whether you think it would be better to write a sample article first, or to simply send a list of topics and brief summaries of the arguments?

I’d start with writing Op-Ed pieces and submitting them to newspapers. I had a couple printed when my only credentials were state committee member of a “3rd party” which were picked up by papers in my state and a neighboring state.

Well, I do know of an on-line forum with thousands of the smartest, hippest people on the planet, plus a few total dipsticks. It’s mostly dedicated to fighting ignorance, but does have some political discussion.

You could maybe try posting some article topics (t)here?

But – and I hope you’re OK with maybe some tough love here – what makes you think that you have some special insight that none of the thousands of current political writers (and millions of forum posters/blog commenters) have? Especially since you admit you don’t have any experience that they don’t have? What could make you that unique?

Good political writing generally isn’t about some super flash of genius insight. Believe me, there are enough smart people in politics that someone has had that insight already. It’s about being able to put things clearly (and, frankly, in ways that your audience wants to read; why else are you going to get paid?).
