This story in our Sunday paper is a must-read not only for its brutal frankness, but for the writer’s courage (and anguish) in telling this horror story of molestation and revenge, and its dire warning to parents everywhere. It’s part one of two, and I’ll try to post the second half tomorrow or Tuesday. You will have to register on the site to read it, but they won’t send you any spam.
I’m linking to this thread so I can get the update. My nephew was molested by a neighbor when he was a kid, but he brought charges and the guy went to jail, IIRC. Too good for the guy, really. It used to be an axiom that pedophiles were treated with, shall we say, “less than full respect” by other, non-pedophile inmates, but I don’t know if that’s true anymore.

Is there any suggestion in the article that his parents could reasonably be expected to have prevented what happened? If not, how can it be a ‘warning to parents’?
It’s disturbing to me that child molestation seems sooo prevalent in society. It seems like you really can’t trust anyone. Anyway, I am glad that you’re telling us about this story and I will want to see the conclusion.
Don’t suppose someone could provide the gist of it, for those of us who dislike having to register, just to read a stinkin’ website?
You don’t have to register, at least I didn’t. It’s the front page story.
I got the registration message too.
Wow.
My best guess is that it’s a “warning” that educating your child early on about what things are OK and what things aren’t, can help prevent some of these situations (like the sleepovers with the coaches). Also keeping good communications with your children so that if something does happen, your child knows s/he can come to you with it so you can prevent it from happening again.
Chefguy, thanks for posting the link (btw, I was not asked for registration). Very harrowing story. Just another reminder to be careful with Dweezil and Moon Unit and make sure they know what sort of things are OK and what things aren’t.
This contains both part one and part two of the story. It was apparently published in a Colorado paper previously, so one may find a link on the web to it.
**GorillaMan[/]: I don’t believe the OP was that mysterious. Or were you being deliberately obtuse?
I didn’t need to register to read the story.
And update: reporter is arrested on suspicion of felony stalking.
Wow! What a messed up world we live in…
Well, whatever his reasons, he pretty much admitted to stalking in the article. It’s quite right that the police should investigate any possible threat of violence, even if it is to an alleged paedophile.
I don’t deny that what he wrote, and getting his friend to watch the guy wasn’t illegal. It’s just so wrong that HE gets arrested after this. So unfair.
