I know this kind of thing happens all the time but this case has been a fixture in the Canadian media lately. Sadly, we won’t have a happy ending. Stories like this are just all kinds of depressing. What’s goes wrong with these animals to lead them to abduct and kill an 8-year-old?
I just don’t know.
I cannot imagine the pain and dread every waking moment when your child is missing, and I cannot imagine the depth of grief when your child dies. But abduction and murder? Not cancer, not a car accident, but deliberate death by another person? The child, dead, and the lives of her family forever scorched?
I just don’t know.
I’m surprised Nancy Grace hasn’t been all over this (not to make light, but the missing girl even had the requisite ‘-ee’ ending to her name).
I hate to sound like one of the idiot commenters in the news site link, but I am thinking about the motive here, for a couple to abduct and kill a little girl. Kidnapping-for-ransom gone wrong? Something to do with the girl’s mother? Inspired by Paul Bernardo/Karla Homolka (weren’t they from Ontario)? How tragic.
It’s hard not to be curious about it and spectre of Bernardo/Homolka is inescapable in a case like this. Let’s hope they didn’t harm any other kids the police haven’t learned of.
As disturbing as it was when the bus passenger was beheaded I can believe that the attacker in that case was mentally deranged. These people planned to kidnap someone specific and the cold calculated aspect of it makes it a bit more disturbing for me.
You’re right about Nancy Grace too. I don’t watch but my wife does. Does she cover events in other countries or just America?
Canadian? Nancy doesn’t do Canadian. :snort:
We wouldn’t do her either.
Since they have not actually found a body, I continue to cross my fingers and hope for the one-in-a-million shot that the cops have made a ghastly mistake and she’s alive. (Lord knows they’ve made worse mistakes.) But it does appear grim.
Beyond that I cant really comment because the very concept of it is painful for me to discuss.
Cat Fight: Bernardo and Homolka were from Ontario, though an hour and a half or so from Woodstock, where Victoria Stafford is from.
If they’ve got enough to charge someone with murder, I’d say the time for hoping is long gone. Sad.
This case has been making me sad all morning. As a mom, I can’t imagine the horror of your child missing, then to hear that search efforts have become recovery efforts.
As for motive, I read in the Globe and Mail this morning that the police are hinting to a “sexual” motive, and there was mention of Bernardo and Homolka, since the female was the one that actually walked away with Tori Stafford.
I am going to give my baby an extra big hug when I get home, we work so hard to keep them safe…
“Victoria’s father, Rodney Stafford, speaking to reporters later Wednesday, said he thinks McClintic’s mother was looking to breed her dog with Victoria’s mother’s dog. However, he said he could not be sure.”
When all is said and done, I’ll bet Craigslist is at the bottom of this.
