A SDMB thread hit pages of the biggest morning paper in Sweden

Guess which one…

FYI the What if the LOTR had been written by someone else was mentioned in the biggest morning paper in Sweden this very morning, Dagens Nyheter Se link (it’s in Swedish)

Article in Swedish

In translation they recon it’s one of the better additions to the LOTR hysteria this month.

Honorary mentions to the Irvine Welshs, the two Fight club, the Hunter S Thompson and the P L Travers versions.

Want to bet the hamster will have a busy busy day?

Nothing against Swedish newspapers, but after the “Slashdot effect” I doubt our hamster will be very impressed by anything else.

Yeesh, all these chefs showing up, saying Bork Bork Bork, sounds terrible…

j/k

That’s “Boork Boork Boork” actually, present time means double "oo"s, it’s a comon grammar mistake so don’t worry about it…

Yup, the Slashdot effect would probably be hard to beat. A pretty high percentage of them must have clicked on the link.

Dude… Irvine Welsh was mine! Famous in Sweden! Who could ask for more?

At the risk of a hijack, I’ll bite:

Somebody 'splain to me this “Slashdot effect” phenomenon.

http://slashdot.org/ is as they say “news for nerds” they have a very very large readership. Last week a link to the thread in question appeared on their front page. The board slowed down to a standstill because of the amount of people hitting it, last time I looked the thread had 150,000 + views.

Slashdot “unintentionally” take down sites in this way quite a bit.

Obligatory Jargonfile link:

Slashdot effect.

I suppose congratulations to fingolfin are in order for creating one of the best threads in the history of the boards - so good it’s a worldwide phenomenon.

269, 317 at the moment

I would imagine there is more danger of DN getting bogged down from people here hitting the article link than the other way round

Fan va’ kul dock!

Time for the Reader to think about adjusting their advertising rates, eh?

I think it’s an amazing reflection on Swedish language skills that a mainstream paper would post a link to a site that parodies different styles of literature in a language that isn’t the national language of that country. Very few other countries I can think of (except the Netherlands, of course) would be able to do that with any confidence.

woohoo! I’m one of the Fight Clubs. (there are three actually, now…)

I’m really beginning to think that thread will never die. With all the publicity about it, newbies keep coming in to bump it. (usually with something that’s been done before , but sometimes something good.)

You could ask for music and rhythm. But that might just be greedy.

Heh.

Or his girl. Maybe even a Toyota.

Okay. I’ll stop now.

Ok good, I was rubbing my eyes everytime I looked at that 200,000. Thought I needed glasses.

Fan också, jävla skithuvud. Håll käften förr jag kommer dit, klösa ut ditt öga och knulla din skalle.

Bork! Bork! Bork!

d’ohh :smack:

There was a period a few hours ago when response was the pits. That probably explains it.

Maybe some of them were the Swedish bikini team and they will decide to stay…
