Top 3 SDMB Threads

If you were asked to give the 3 best examples of great threads on this board, what would you pick?

Rio, by Duran Duran

There was an excellent one about how the Lord of the Rings would have looked if it had been written by different authors.

But sadly my search skills are not up to the task…

Hi, glee! Would this here thread be the one you were thinking of?

I’ll give you two. I can’t decide on which is #3.

May 5, 1945 - we shall remember

The horror of blimps

Yes - that’s exactly right - thanks JoseB.

Bear Napples Wedding
Things Overheard During Sex (“Is that a leg?”)
What if someone else had written LotR?

Actually my first thought was the Horror of Blimps, and The Ron Thread. Since I couldn’t think of a third, I just posted Rio. But “There is evil in my back yard. It’s in a cooler” also seems classic. Sampiro’s thread “The Things We Said today” about his mother’s illness/passing. The 1945 thread mentioned above. I gravitate toward the personal and humorous, although other things like airplane on a treadmill are fascinating and informative. Other GQ threads are really interesting too, but usually don’t go long enough to become an epic thread.

Are scalar weapons real?

Which gave birth to 1920’s style “Death Rays”.

I waterboard!

The Telemarketer Speaks. I Respond, started by Cervaise.

Korean Grocery Poetry Jam.

Some really amazing stuff from some of the best posters in SDMB history.

Gotcha Ya

Pit Threads Guaranteed to Backfire has always stuck with when I learned about it in another “Best of” SDMB thread. Tears running down my cheeks in class just reading it again now.

This. With out a doubt.

I’ll contribute two:

The Strange Case of Donald Eugene Ivens and
Who was the Bow Tie Man [Social Security pic?]

Comedy gold: Would you shoot child and kill your child in this situation? - Great Debates - Straight Dope Message Board

Was that the origin of “Don’t fight the hypothetical?”

There’s this classic Cautionary Tale, featuring (sort of) one of our Highly Respected Moderators.

The “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” one was pretty good. Homicidal elves and dolls that had abortions. Classic.
